Rhythmic Step

A comment and a question -

First - I did this for the first time today and absolutely loved it! I didn't get all of the moves (and some I simply stood there and stared), but there's enough jumping over the step that I got a good workout anyway. I really enjoyed this. I adored the end when everything gets put together, even though I almost landed on my tail end a few times... :+

The question - do you really watch the entire workout before you do it? And if so, do you really benefit?

I had time to really watch the first segment, kind of watch the second (with a lot of fast forward), and was unable to watch the third segment at all. I did no better on the first one than I did on the third. In fact I think I did worse - had a devil of a time with that front/side kick, then the knee-kick, knee-kick, richot repeater - fell off the step a few times on that one.

Hi Christine! I don't have Rhythmic Step but honestly I do like to watch her workouts through at least once to know what's coming up & to learn moves. I did this with IM3 and it helped a lot. I find it frustrating to stop so much to learn that it messes w/ my heartrate, though often I still find myself doing it until I get the hang of it. Sounds like you will have it down in no time.

Hi Christine. I love Rhythmic Step also. I only did it once so far. I watched the clip on the website first to get an idea of most of the moves. It seemed to help. I to had a problem with some areas, but I just kept moving and watching. I figure eventually I will get better. Just keep moving and watching her, it seems to come even if it is on the last rep she does. Have fun. It is a fun one.

I have taken to watching a segment at a time on the more complex stuff like RS. I think it would be too hard to get the first time through, otherwise. Some of the other workouts this isn't necessary because they are broken down more...

I guess I don't want to end up with a twisted ankle, lol.

Cheers,
Marie

It's funny because I think there are two distinct approaches to learning a step routine. Neither is better than the other, but it's just interesting to hear what others say.

I think we have the people who want to learn the routine well before they do the whole thing. They are the ones who pause and rewind each segment to really understand the moves.

Then you have the ones who just do it and hope for the best. I'm definitely the later group. I get a lot of the moves, but some just elude me. I feel great though, after the 5th time when the move I couldn't get because second nature.

I'm a mixture...I watch until I get bored sitting and watching and then I workout with the video and just stumble all over the place until I have it.:7

I do the same as you Christi...I also watch until I just cannot stand to watch anymore and just have to try it. I did get most of it down and stumbled through the rest...haha It was so much fun!!!:)

I'm a Watcher/stumbler too. I take Cathe's advice and watch it first one time through, and then stumble my way through! Sometimes I rewind if I really couldn't get a segment. I find the more of Cathe's routines I do, the quicker I catch on though.

I just ordered CTX off Ebay, but after that my next Cathe is RS, so I will in the same boat as you. I'm looking forward to it!!

Hi
I'm a stumbler, I just don't have the patience to watch it first. I think it's just my temperment, like how I do puzzles. I like to just enjoy and look for pieces as I go while my DH actually spends time separating out all the pieces into specific groups, and then puts the puzzle together very quickly. To me, that just takes all the fun out it, which is why I prefer to stumble through my Cathe's. :+

If I watched all my workouts first, I'd probably never get around to doing them!!! Also I don't know if it would help me much...my feet need to go through the motions so THEY know what to do!!! So another stumbler here...so far it's worked for me and btw, the more step I do, with the more instructors, the easier it is for me to learn new routines:)

And the first time I owned a copy of RS, I got so frustrated with it and had trouble with my right knee, I finally let it go (plus my other Cathe vhs tapes:(). Then for some reason, I got hooked on Cathe again, this time collected dvds and reacquired RS again...and found I could do it pretty easily:eek: Now I love it and won't let it go:)
