Resuming intercourse...

Hi all, sorry if this is too personal but I'm really stressed about this. I had my first baby 9 weeks ago via c-section. 7 weeks post partum I had my pap smear and it was VERY uncomfortable with a "pinching" sensation on my cervix. My doctor found a better angle and then all was o.k. (not great - but ok). Well, my dh and I ATTEMPTED intercourse last week and I had the same problem - so we stopped. I am planning on calling my doctor but I want to know if this has happened to anyone else and if you have any advice.

Thanks so much...jeni

Well, I'll admit that it took me a LONG time to feel totally comfortable again during intercourse. Probably about 8 months. The first 3-4 months of that period, angle (like with your doctor) was key - certain positions were just plain uncomfortable. We just took it slow and shifted if necessary. The rest of uncomfotable time I think was due to pumping breastmilk for DS (he was preemie and never quite mastered nursing) and so my body was dry because the extra fluid was going towards lactating. Even though we used a lubricant, it just wasn't the same until I stopped pumping.

I was really surprised by this! I didn't realize it would be so uncomfortable for so long, but I am glad that it ended! Makes me think about those women who have 2 kids within a year...wowza!

I think you are doing the right thing to call your doctor, but don't feel like you are alone. Even with a c-section, your cervix went through many changes during pregnancy and labor... and, additionally, hormones (esp. if you are b'feeding) can really effect lubrication and libido.

I had a lot more pain after #1... and that was a vaginal birth... but this time I initially had some mild cervical discomfort. I was at 7 cm. when they stopped my contractions to do the c-section.

Now if I could just get back my libido!
