Restarting....

So...after a month of being a total couch potato, I need to get back to exercise. I have no excuse why I took a break - simply lazy. Now I feel that I lost some strength and definately cardiovascular ability. I am tired all the time, and I can't even bring myself to start exercising again. But I know I have to.
Prior to that break, I was an intermediate exerciser, doing cardio and weights 3-4 times a week for about 45 min each session. I was in good (not great) shape. All the tapes I have at home are for advanced exercisers, and I probably won't be able to do them.
How do I get back on track ? Should I buy a beginner tape or can I modify the ones I have (a lot of Cathe's) ?
I feel like I am running in a circle: no energy to exercise, yet if I exercise I have more energy...

Thanks,
Anat from Israel.

Ah, the eternal conundrum - you need to exercise to energize, rather than the reverse!

Hi, Anat! Welcome back! If you have a lot of Cathe's and are familiar with the choreography of them, I think you could get back to them and modify both in terms of intensity and duration. Try to get back to your previous schedule of at least 4 workouts each week, and make sure to get your strength training in as well as your cardio. You may also have to modify your strength stuff as well (maybe go a bit lighter on the weights at first) but simply get back into it and work your way up. I think you'll be surprised at how quickly you get your groove back - and KEEP POSTING HERE!

Again, welcome back!

Thank you Annette !

I appreciate your warm welcome and your advice...
Today will be the first workout session...
Hopefully I'll get back to the rut quickly...

RE: You're welcome!

I was wondering what had happened to you; you posted fairly regularly there! Good to have you back!

I hope I'm not talking out of school here, but I must say I admire you for being able to get back into an exercise mode considering all of the enormous problems Israel is enduring right now. I read an editorial in one of my group fitness instructor publications written by an Israeli instructor, and it was extremely compelling, uplifting but also very sobering. I hope you are not too stymied in being able to live your life in these troubled times.
