Rest Days

I was shocked to read this thread at the runner's world forums. I thought just about every exerciser took at least one day off a week. These people are saying that you don't have to take any days off! You should be able to run everyday, or at least workout everyday. A few promote rest days for the 60+ age. What do you all think? It seems bizarre to me. I have to plan my whole week around my body. I'm wondering if my performance would improve if I didn't have any rest days? I know I don't have the time to fit it in, but am just curious.

I'm not a big fan of running, and certainly not of not taking rest days. I think it's nuts, but then my opinion, we all know, is not worth the price of a cup of coffee in a cheap diner.

Just Do It! :)

Love them

Can't imagine doing 1 fitness activity (besides walking) every day. There's too many fun things to do! Why take the risk?

It seems like you're steadily improving your running. Injury free so far, right? Seems like you've found the right approach.

I've met more wild-eyed zealots among the runners' crowd than any other fitness mode including hard-core bodybuilding.

Stick with your instincts, Andrea. Rest days are extremely important, and the people who advocate zero rest are the people who are going to make orthopedic doctors rich in the not too distant future.

I frequently read articles like that in Runner's World - about people who have run for X amount of years without missing a day. I generally don't take rest days and never had problems, but I wouldn't want to run every day even though I really love running.

Good

Sounds like I'm doing things okay. As much stuff as I read about fitness and health I was afraid I actually missed something! And I'll admit, the RW forum is kinda mean sometimes. I only go there when I have a pressing running question or I am reeeeaaaaallllly bored. And now I know why...they mess with my mind!

I'm still quivering from Power Hour. Might need many rest days!

I think the body needs at least one recovery and rest day per week. I indulge myself on rest days -- or run errands I never get done on workout days. Or I take a nice long nap!

Rest days are my reward for the other 6 hard training days!
