My husband and I are seriously thinking of moving to the mid-west. We plan on taking a road trip when he finishes the job in Boston he's been working on. We live in Maine now. Any suggestions?

If I may ask . .

what type of employment do you need, will your be looking for?

And if your independently wealthy - then more power to you!!

I grew up in the midwest and although I despise winter I am glad I am raising my child here.

Living in Michigan I can tell you that the Traverse City (Petosky, Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Leelenau) area is beautiful. Also I think the Grand Rapids area is nice if you are looking for more of a big city appeal. Grand Haven and Manistee, Rockford, Sparta (apple orchard country and wine country). Personally I live near the edge of the thumb between Saginaw and Flint and it's farm country and it is really economically depressed.

Housing prices are at an all time low here.

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Thanks Baylien! We are not independently wealthy, but we do have alot of assets we will sell such as land my Tanning Salon, my house with 23 acres of land, airplane etc. My husband is a carpenter/building contractor. He wants to live on a lake like we do now and be able to hunt. I peronally like living near a city but in the out skirts.

I would love to put in a plug for The Buckeye State because it's my home but, if your husband is a hunter, I have no clue. I WORK with a lot of men who hunt but I live in the city and they all live in rural parts - but I don't know where. I will say it's pretty cool how quickly one can get from the country to the city (Columbus) around here, though gas prices have kind of dampened the joy.

I have to ask, why the midwest? I love it here in the spring and the fall but I hate when it turns cold and in the summer, it's so humid even people visiting from the south can't believe how sticky it gets. If I can ever swing it I'd love one of those fabulous beach side properties that can (still) be had fairly cheap (though that's changing) in Mexico. I salivate every time those properties are featured on House Hunters International. Wish I could help more. I do know a lot of people who believe Michigan is a paradise for hunting and fishing, if you love the cold and the snow.

Michigan can be a really great place and has lots of beautiful land, but the building business here is pretty bad right now :-( I'd guess it's pretty much the same anywhere in the midwest. If I could live anywhere here, I'd probably choose the Traverse City area or somewhere nearby. You can live in the rural area and still be close to Lake Michigan and Traverse City has a lot of big city things going for it.

I live in Ohio, and am currently selling my house with 156 acres..Plenty of hunting...Love to sell it to ya...

Beleive me I've tried to get him to go somewhere warm but he loves the four seasons and the cold. He really wants to go to Alaska but I had to put my foot down! He said we could check out Colorado. He also wants to get another airplane at some point. That's one of the reasons he wants Alaska, big flying there. He wants to check out Minnesota, a pilot we talked to in Boston said their big into flying too. Can ya see how I rate! We won't go there though

I'm in Minnesota...Land of 10,000 Lakes!! Lots of hunting, fishing and I believe a lot of small airplane fields/hangars.

Check us out:D

I am kind of partial to southern Indiana. Cost of living is good and the people are nice.
Yeah, I am pretty partial to Indiana, too. I love our state and the county that we live in was rated one of the safest places to live in the country. It is flat (no hills/mountains), which I hate, but I love the people and the seasons. We live just outside of Indianapolis and really I couldn't imagine living or raising my kids anywhere else, not even Hawaii. We are less than 2 hours away from Lake Michigan and Chicago so there is lots to do. :)

Not really the mid west but have you thought on northern Utah?
Most of the time we get all four seasons. Execpt yesterday we got 11 inches of snow.
The mountains are to die for! If you love skiing, mountain biking, hiking there's sooo much more. The Ogden Valley is beautiful.
