??? regarding simulating hills on treamills and ellipit...

When doing hills on a treadmill, are you supposed to walk or run?? If I go to a level 10 on the treadmill (is this to high?) - should I be running or walking and at what speed would you recommend. I did the treadmill workout Cathe suggested the other day and did hills. I was able to go to level 10 and walked with long strides at about 3.8. I didn't know if I should be walking faster or if I could run or jog. Also would running or jogging be harder on the knees because of the incline.

I also want to try interval training on the elliptical - I usually do 45 minutes on the ellipitcal where I warm up at a level 5 and go up a level every 5 minutes until I hit level 10 and then I go back down usually level 10 is hard and I drop to a level 7 afterwards and start dropping levels until I hit 45 minutes. So my question regarding the ellipitcal, is what would a sprint be considered, would it actually be going down to a level one and really upping the rpm?? And how do you do hills on the elliptical is it going up in resistance - the elliptical I use does not have an incline mode.

Thanks much for your input and time for answering my seemingly never ending questions?

From what Cardio Coach has one do, I assume they are slower than steady state, but at an incline. The steeper the incline, the slower the pace, IMO. But do what works for you. Judge by your level of exertion rather than the pace (if you run out of breath, it's too fast, if you aren't near your anaerobic threshhold, bump it up a bit).

On a elliptical, just increase resistance.
