Refusing to take the bottle,again

Alexis seemed like she taking the bottle, although not happily, but once again is refusing to take it. I am still using pumped milk and having husband give it to her, but this morning she just screamed. She immediately took the breast when offered. I am due back to work soon, any advice?

I haven't had to do manage this particular problem but may La Leche league can help with some suggestions? Although, I'm sure someone else on the forum can give some advice from experience.

Good luck.

Switching to a bottle was almost impossible for me as well. When Hannah was 8 months old and I was having terrible infections I had to try to switch her to a bottle and I tried everything. Some things that didn't exactly work for me, but might work for you (since your baby is younger)....you have probably tried every different bottle in the world, but they do make a bottle that is just like a breast. It is made of a soft material and shaped just like you!!! I'm trying to remember the name of it, I may have to look on the internet and get back to you, but you may want to check as well. I bought one to try and a friend of mine was successful with it (her baby was a few months younger). Maybe you can fool her a little? (babies are pretty smart so I don't want you to think that it will definitely work, but it might be worth a try).

Thanks for the suggestions, I will call the local breastfeeding group for advice. I am going to try the gerber bottles for a few more days, if that doesn't work I will order the ones you mentioned Briee.

My husband and I just starting trying to get pregnant with #3 so I thought I would start popping in on this board again. Anyway, I had a very hard time getting my first son to take a bottle. In fact, he never did no matter what I tried. I was going back to work part time back then and was so upset and worried. I worked with a lactation consultant and tried almost everything and nothing had worked. Finally, she gave me the strangest suggestion but worked! She told me to try having him drink the breast milk right out of a little dixie bathroom paper cup. He lapped it up just like a little kitten! Maybe because it didn't involve sucking and was so differnt than breast feeding? I don't know but it saved both of us. From there he went on to use the colored Tupperware cups with the flat lid and little spout on them. My friend who took care of him while I worked just kind of poured little sips into his mouth until he got the hang of drinking it himself. Then from there we went to a regular sippie cup. My second son didn't like the bottle very much either and he went right to the Tupperware cup. I don't know if it will work but there are a few more suggestions to try if nothing else does. Good luck! I am sure something will work it's just a matter of finding the right thing for your baby.

My son was between 4-5 months when I got him to take the cup. I wished I would have known about it sooner. It would have saved me a couple months of stress and worry. Good luck and let everyone know what finally works. And don't worry something will. It's so funny how even so early in life each little baby has such distinct likes and dislikes.
