Recumbent Bike

Hi all - Just got a Recumbent Bike. Can anyone suggest workouts for it. Should I get Cardio Coach nad if so, which ones. Also has anyone done Jay Blahnik or Mindy's cycle workouts from Collage. Also, do spinervals work with \recumbents?

Sorry so many questions. I'm just excited and want to get started.

I got a recumbent bike for Xmas 03. I find the best workout is watching an action movie. I always bike for the entire movie and every time the action gets exciting I do an intensity blast (without even meaning to...I'll look down and discover my rpm is over 110). I try to increase the intensity up and down during the first hour and then coast 'til the end (my legs are usually pretty shaky at the end).
One really cool way is get intensity blasts is two minutes at low intensity (say 4). Then increase to 6 for 5 minutes back to 4 for 2 minutes...increase to 7 for 5 minutes back to 4 for two minutes...continue this pattern while increasing the high intensity until you can't do it. Make sure your rpm stays at a minimum of 80 for an awesome leg workout. I did this drill while training for triathalons and it really worked well. This drill can be done during a movie or to music which really gets you moving.

My favorite recumbent bike workouts are done by putting on a Cathe interval or circuit DVD and changing pace and intensity with the work out. I wear a HRM to gage my efforts. These are some of my most intense workouts.

BTW when I use a circuit DVD, i use the bike for the cardio and do the circuits as directed. This works great for Boot Camp, Circuit Max, Power Circuit segment of Body Max and Power circuits of CTX too.
