Recovery drinks

So I'm increasing the intensity of my workouts and trying to plan them around the muscle soreness I anticipate. Some people suggest a whey protein smoothie afterwards to help or recently I saw to have it before. Anyone have any suggestions on something that really works?

Great post! I'm anxious to read everyone's replies.

You can experiment and see what works for you. I usually make a smoothie with water, whey protein, 1/2 small banana (or frozen fruit), and spinach (or kale). I'll have one before and one after my workout. You could also do just protein powder (especially after).

One thing I like for muscle soreness is tart cherry juice. I mix the concentrate up with water and a packet of Stevia and drink it during my workout. I think it helps with soreness.

I went for several months without using this to try and save money and calories, but I went back to using it when I started XTrain. I think it makes a difference. I found a local grocery store that carries the Nature's Blest brand. It's over $30 a bottle, but you only use 1oz at a time, so the bottle lasts for a month or more.
