Recarpeting my house

Hi all! We're planning to put our house on the market sometime in the next year. It's 10 years old, and we've never replaced our carpet, so I'm thinking it would be wise to do that before trying to sell. But I dread it!! I'm wondering if anyone has words of wisdom or advice about making it manageable. Does anybody know how long it takes to have it done (we're looking at about 1300 sq ft of carpeting)? Do you have to pack up a lot of stuff (knick knacks, etc)? Can you basically find a safe corner and hide out while the installers do their thing?

Thanks!

i live in a large apartment and had my countertop, carpet, and floors remodeled. the carpet only took a day. all the furniture and bed i left for them to move and emptied all the books from my bookcase(anything that will fall over if moved). oh,and also my numerous number of cat toys!

If you don't want to hassle with replacing it, you can always offer a carpet allowance with the sale and then they can pick out their own carpet.
