Re: I fractured 2 ribs

I'm totally bummed. I went to the emergency room this morning with extreme pain on my right side and difficulty breathing. I tripped on my coffee table and fell right into it. After seeing 2 doctors and having some x-rays, I was told that I fractured rib 9 and 10. Doctor said that I shouldn't do anything strenuous for 1 month. I can't believe I can't do my Cathe tapes for one month. What am I going to do? I'm so addicted to her workouts, do them every morning at 6:30 a.m. and got into awesome shape from doing so.

Anyone fracture a rib and how long was your recovery?

I've never fractured ribs, just wanted to say I'm so sorry about your injury... take it easy and don't try to rush back into working out... you want to be completely recovered before you go back to a Cathe w/o.

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you're feeling better soon. I know what you mean about missing out on your workouts. When I had Brooke I hated that I couldn't workout right when I got home from the hospital. Just try to really focus on eating clean and don't worry, your body won't lose much strength and what you do lose you'll get back quickly.

Take care,

Thank you both for your inspiration and good wishes. This morning the pain is even worse. Just took a Vicodin and hopefully it will kick in soon. I hate taking the Vicodin because it makes me really tired and weird. Might get some Ibuprofen or Motrin today to take instead. I plan on eating clean so that I don't lose strength and don't want to pig out just because I'm depressed and think I'll gain weight because I'm not working out. I'll let you know how I'm doing.

Thanks again, Erin

Hi Erin,

Never broke any ribs, but I have a foot/ankle injury going on. So, I feel your pain as far as not doing Cathe cardio. I haven't in over a month. :-( I can still walk on the treadmill and dod the elliptical. At least it's something.

I've been eating super clean too. I do miss some of the sweets, but I'm with you I don't want to get depressed if I gain weight and can't work out.

Hang in there!

Here's wishes for a speedy recovery!

Dallas

Thanks Dallas. This is only my 2nd day with being injured and I'm already thinking about what and if I can maybe start riding my bike by Thursday. Do you think I'm obsessed with working out? Sorry to hear about your foot/ankle injury and hope you're feeling better soon. Take care! Erin

Currently have a broken rib. I dispensed with the formality of seeing a doctor - frankly I didn't realize what I'd done at first, and by the time I did it seemed like a moot point - and treated it at first with NSAIDs and ice. For me the pain subsided to discomfort gradually over about a week to ten days. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out now and it mainly feels weird and there are some things I just don't want to do (anything involving lying prone is RIGHT out), but I'm still running, squatting, deadlifting, and so on. Things seem to continue improving so I just don't do things that feel suspect and concentrate on things I can do.

I understand it takes ribs a long time to heal, 8 - 10 weeks. Be patient with yourself and don't do nothin' dumb.
