Razor recommendations please

I am doing a drugstore.com order today and wanted to see if I could find a better razor. I was reading the customer reviews of the Venus and the women are saying to skip it and buy a men's razor because it's smaller and therefore manipulates better. A few recommended the men's Mach3. Any recommendations before I buy? Thanks.

I use the Venus and I'm happy with it, but then, I've never tried the mens. The Venus has a nice big handle that I find comfortable to grip. I have a little arthritis in my poor old opposable thumbs so that's an attractive feature for me.

Venus here, too. Haven't heard of using a man's razor. I actually like the Venus a lot--easy to grip; I don't drop it as often in the shower; works fairly well.

I'm mostly interested in a really close shave and cutting down on bumps and redness under my arms and in my bikini area.

Another Venus user here. I think in the 3 or so years I've been using it, I may have nicked a knee twice, which I think is a great reccommendation. (Are there too many letters in that word?)Someday me spel prety.

Nancy,
I like the Venus, especially when the blades are very new. But I also recently tried the Schick Quattro for women and really loved it. It is more heavily weighted, maneuvers wonderfully, and is almost impossible to cut yourself with. It's a pretty comparable price, but I got mine as a free sample so it was totally worth it. I thick, coarse dark hair and this worked very well.

Nancy-

I have to say that I was not impressed by the Venus when I used it. I really liked the Intuition razor for the lack of razor burn and bumps, but found it hard to maneuver in the bikini area.

I also got the Schick Quattro in a free sample and LOVE it! It maneuvers great in the bikini area and I have yet to experience razor burn or bumps!!!

HTH!

P.S. Love the new avatar if I hadn't told you yet!

Thanks, ladies. DH was ordering a Mach3, so we ordered two of 'em, and are going to share a pack of blades. I also bought some of those "Bikini Zone" products, which I'd been wanting to try since hearing about them on this forum.

We'll see how this stuff works, and I'll let you know if I make any fab discoveries.

Nancy, I know us curly girls are prone to ingrown hairs and razor bumps. I highly recommend Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel. I've been using it for a couple of years and haven't had a problem since. A dermatologist suggested it to my DH because he has very sensitive skin and a real problem with ingrown hairs (he's a curly guy:+ ). We're both very happy with it.

I'd be careful about using the Venus Vibrance if you have sensitive skin. I got it for free, too, but threw the batteries out because using it that way made my legs red and itchy. Works great without the batteries, though.

I have loved the Mach3 for a long time. Tried others but still seem to gravitate back to the Mach! That's my opinnion FWIW!:)

Michele, I will try the Aveeno stuff next after I try the Bikini Zone products. I purchased the Mach3, but am not wedded to it because DT can use the blades (and the razor itself is inexpensive). Like Anne, I was attracted to the 3-blade cut. We'll see.

Thanks to everyone! :D

Nancy, I second Michele's recommendation of Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel. I have sensitive skin which is very easily irritated by shaving, this has stopped the irritation. For manuevering the bikini area, have you tried the little disposable bikini razors by Noxema? They come packaged 3 to a pack, are very small and work quite well for me.

I haven't had have any problem at all. Love it!

Here I have been using the ole Daisy! Don't like Venus at all but talk of using Mach III? Hmmm. I actually never thought of using a mens shaver but I think a trip to CVS is in order. Gonna try it out.

I use the men's Mach 3 also. I tried the Venus but didn't like it. I also use a Remington battery operated shaver specifically for the bikini area. I do this BEFORE I shower. First I brush on some baby powder, then the Remington. No nicks or red bumps. I do know that many of my friends who shave with soap and/or shave creams use Bikini Zone products afterwards and have great results! Hopes this helps. I'm always amazed at what we women will do to be well groomed:) !! My next step is a brazilian...if I can work up the courage.
