I'm fat, fat, fat and I can't lose it. I go jogging everyday with my baby in his stoller. I'm an active person and I do not eat off the wall. I'm just as careful now as when I was pregnant what I put into my body. I dropped 2 pounds now and have been stuck for 2 months without a single ounce dropped. I have been seeing info on a diet product called QuickSlim and I would like to know more about it. Has anyone tried this or do you know their web site address-- I want to check this out.

Question number one: Have you kept a food journal so you know EXACTLY what you're eating? If you're not, please do so. Then you can see in black and white if your eating habits are what you think they are.

Suggestion number two: Get thee to a Weight Watchers meeting, or check out their website. I would do this before resorting to Quick Fix products that don't educate you on how to eat right.

Neither are sexy answers, but they are sensible and may help you long term.

Hi Dream,

Honeybunch is right, there is really only 1 way to know if your eating is "on track" or the culprit of your plateau, and that is to write down everything you eat and drink. So many people I've known had no idea how many calories they were consuming daily in liquid form until they wrote them down. Every soda or juice is easily 100+ calories, and if you're downing a 20oz. bottle, 300+ calories. Also, writing it down keeps you from mindless snacking, or at least makes you aware of it. I was shocked the first day I began journaling my food intake. I saw that on a routine basis I was easily consuming 3000-4000 calories/day, and I was a person that would say, "...but I really don't eat that much!" Until I put it in black and white, I had no clue!
Also, take it from someone who in past years tried EVERYTHING but exercise and healthy eating to lose weight, there really is no "magic" formula, and anything that will work, will only work temporarily, and your weight will only come back.
The only real answer is the one no one wants to hear, and that's that you have to monitor what you eat, striving to eat healthfully, and exercise on some sort of a consistent basis. How frequently you are able to exercise, and depending on the intensity, etc. will determine how many calories/day you can eat and still lose weight, but I've been tweeking and reworking calories and rotations for just over a year now, and although some weeks/months were better than others, I can tell you from experience that the only real answer is: exercise and healthy eating. I refuse to use the word diet because people get the wrong idea. I eat healthfully 80% of the time, and not so healthfully 20% of the time (addicted to McDonalds and Ben & Jerry's):) but I exercise daily in order to continue to lose weight at a steady rate. So far, I've lost a total of 191 lbs. in just 13 months, and the only "magic" has been the support from this forum when I feel like you in the beginning of this post, "fat, fat, fat."
I don't know how much you feel you need to lose, but don't be too hard on yourself, start with writing down everything you eat and drink and analyze where you need to make changes. Also, if you don't already do it, increase your water intake. Water helps your body flush waste, fat and other toxins, and as a bonus, fills you up with 0 calories! :)
If you are at all interested in some exercise rotations I have done that were "more successful" at burning fat/busting through a plateau, please email me and I'd be happy to send them to you.

Sorry so long winded,
Donna

Hi Donna!

I was just reading your bio yesterday thinking, WOW, she has lost more weight then she weighs now! That is soooo wonderful. What a super example to others here that it CAN be done. Keep up the great work!

my 2 cents...

LAST EDITED ON May-30-02 AT 03:23PM (Est)[p]I just wanted to add, for the first poster, and maybe this is totally unecessary to mention in a Cathe forum, but start lifting weights! Jogging every day is great but I have found that increasing my muscle mass has done wonders for speeding up my metabolism, so that you then burn more calories at rest and not just when you are jogging. Of course, Donna is right on with her food journalling tip: whenever my clothes start getting tight and I think "But I'm not eating that much..." i go to fitday (a website) and track my eating for a week or two, I'm always eating more calories than I think.

RE: Hi Donna!

You know, our friend Donna has lost as much as almost 16 (15.91 to be exact) twelve pound bowling balls! Hows that for putting it into perspective! You go, girl!!!!

I don't know whether you will find this encouraging or not, but I remember being so depressed after the birth of my first child when I simply could not drop any weight for several months--even though I was watching my diet and exercising, etc. Your first sentence sounds like I did at the time. My doctor said my hormone levels were probably just not back to pre-pregnancy levels and to be patient and not to be so hard on myself. Sure enough, about 5 months after my son was born, I suddenly started losing the weight rather rapidly and I also remember my sadness and self-critical inner voice seemed to lift. All the advice you have received is great, but you should also just wait awhile IMHO. Enjoy your baby and try not to obsess about your weight.
