Question on rooming?

How does the money work if you room with someone? I know how it would work if it were a close friend, but a stranger. Didn't know if the hotel was set up to let them know you have found someone to room with and your card only set up to pay half of the balance. Anyone know?

Christie ~

I don't know how the hotel works but I can tell you how my roomie & I are doing it. I was fortunate enough to meet a wonderful woman on the forum, through many, many e-mails & a few phone calls we have become good friends already. I booked the room on my card & she will give me her 1/2 when we get there. I would say chat with your potential roomie.

Good luck~

The hotel will split the bill evenly for you. The room will be reserved under one person's name and credit card - but they don't charge anyone until you check out. At check out time, they can split the cost of the room among however many people are staying in it, and everyone can pay however they want (credit card, cash, etc). Hope this helps! :)

Christie,

Once you find a roommate, call the hotel and make your reservation. Tell then there will be 2 in your room and give them your roommies name. The hotel will add them they will be responsible for 1/2 the charges.

I need a roomate if anyone is looking for someone.
My email is [email protected]

I dont care how many people are in the room. I dont care how young or old you are. I wouldnt mind rooming to have some company and also share the bill .. since this is making me BROKE. I cant find a flight under $300. I should have thought of that before i hit the road trip button..

EMILY'S RIGHT!

Emily's correct. Our hotels are aware that many people are splitting a room, and they're happy to divide the bill.

We DO recommend two things:

(1) When you check in, tell them up front that you need the bill split even-steven.
(2) Go down to the front desk with your roommate on Saturday evening when you get back after the party at Cathe's gym and make sure your bill is all set (I know it'll be late, but trust me it's better than going downstairs at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday). Then you won't even have to "check out" on Sunday -- you can just leave your keys in the room, and they'll put a final bill under the door during the night showing you what was charged to whose credit card.

Oh -- by the way -- sorta related: There are a couple of computers with printers in the Fairfield Inn lobby and I'm sure there must be some over at the Residence Inn, too (I'll confirm that and get back to ya. ;-)). This means that you can print your boarding pass for Sunday's flight. Airlines generally allow you to confirm your ticket and print your boarding pass from their websites at least 24 hours in advance, so this is something that you could even do if you happen (for whatever reason) to be back over at the hotels anytime on Saturday afternoon. Last year there was a pretty long wait for those computers on Saturday night. I washed my face, brushed my teeth, put on my jammies, packed my gear, laid out my Sunday morning gym bag and then went back downstairs in my p.j.'s (nope, not kidding) about midnight to print my boarding pass. Worked like a charm. ;-)

I'm gonna put all of this in a separate thread to make sure folks see it!
