Question on protein shakes

Hi,
I'm thinking of drinking a shake a few times a week to replace lunch. I'd like it to add protein to my diet, and not a lot of fat. This idea also appeals to me because I have 2 small children (1 and 2) and sometimes it is so hectic at lunchtime that I don't get to eat. I'm thinking on those days I could whip up a shake and get some protein. Any suggestions on brands that you like? Also, do you think this will slow down my metabolism or is a few meal replacements ok? I work out 6 days a week, hard.

thanks,
Candice

I think it's a great idea. I used to have a shake made of a carnation instant breakfast with a scoop of EAS precision protein and banana and ice and milk (or frozen blueberries instead of banana and ice), and it is quite filling. Plus you are getting all the vitamins from the instant breakfast and the
fruit. There are so many recipes out there for great protein shakes. Plus, they really help up your protein intake, if you are like me and don't particularly enjoy eating meat.

If you do a search of this forum you should find lists of people's favorite brands and the ways they make them. In fact, we had one of these discussions not too long ago. I hesitate to say my favorite protein again--I've raved about it in the past and someone here tried it and thought it was disgusting. It is Vanilla Bomber Blend available at www.davedraper.com . Consider yourself warned!

If you can handle just drinking something for a meal I think it is a fine idea. It would probably be a good idea to mix a some fruit or milk or yogurt in it for nutrition.

Its hard for me to get my meals in as well. I use the Twin Lab Super Whey Fuel, strawberry banana flavored. Its my favorite so far. Low in fat and carbs. There are LOTS of them out there that are totally gross though. I just bought 2 2lb tubs of the Optimum Whey protein....ACK! Nasty! I gave it away to a friend of mine. I would suggest looking at your vitamin store in your area, sometimes they have sample packets of the powders. I have heard that Myoplex by EAS and Labrada are both good. But its just a matter of opinion. Not sure of the calorie or fat content of either of those. But it may be with a try.

I'm trying to eat clean too. This week I started with a protein bar ( Myoplex lite which has more carbs tha designer for brunch bec I need more energy that early) and designer protein bar (very low carb) for the 4th meal. Breakfast was an EAS simply protein shake with skim milk. This actually worked well for me. I noticed my energy level stayed real steady and I wasnt cranky or too tired like usual. It made quite a differnece.
