Question for those who do clean eating

I recently did David Kirsch's Ultimate New York Body Plan to break a plateau. This killer plan totally worked and I learned more than I ever knew about eating clean. After the 2 weeks were up (and you really can't do his hard core program for more than 2 weeks)I decided to really make a committment to clean eating. And I've been very good.

But yesterday we hosted a superbowl party and numerous guests brought dishes that were anything but clean. I chalked this up to my "cheat meal" and didn't over eat, but obviously didn't eat clean. So here is my question.

This morning I am feeling totally BLOATED! Fingers, face, tummy, etc. For those of you who eat really clean, (and this is a new phenomenon for me) do you find that when you stray you feel exagerated effects? Do you feel really bloated? Even more that when you didn't eat clean and got bloated (from say too much sodium or PMS)?
 
Yes, I have experienced what you are describing. It is OK and only temporary. Increasing water intake for the next couple of days will help, as will getting back to healhty meals/snacks.

Yes, yes, yes! When I didn't eat clean, I couldn't tell if I my belly was just fat or bloated because I was always bloated from not eating clean. So much worse too around that TOTM too that I looked 3 months pregnant! YIKES!
I use to sell alot on ebay and to keep my listings flowing quickly, I would just eat a bag of whatever...chips, curls, etc....that was my lunch.
I only get bloated now when it is my TOTM, and that only last for a day.
Man, did I abuse my body in the past. YUK!

My guess is the sodium, this happens to me every couple of weeks when we go out to eat, too much sodium, takes me about 48 hrs to get everything flushed out of my system... its not that I don't know its going to happenx( I just love the food}( .... Rhonda:7
 
Yup, I get sick to my stomach and feel like I'm dragging around a ton of lead. Like Rhonda says, it lasts about 48 hours. Drink tons of water as suggested above to expedite the process.

The good thing is, the way you feel now sure makes you want to go back and eat cleanly again, doesn't it. ;-) I guess it's the body's way of keeping us on our diets.

Same here!! I have found that I now get sick to my stomach when I don't eat clean. And last night we had a superbowl party. x( x( I'm feeling rotten and swollen in the fingers, hands, feet, stomach, everywhere! And yesterday afternoon before the party and after my workout, I could see the shadows of my long-awaited six pack. I'm not even going to look this morning.
Back to squeaky clean eating for me!!! I never want to see another brownie at this point.
 
Thank you everybody. Yes - it really makes me want to go back to clean. The water I do any way so that won't be hard. I just can't believe how exaggerated this feeling is. Although Kirsch does warn of it in his book - especially with alcohol.

Annibelmcminn - here's the Kirsch plan in a nutshell. INTENSE 2 week plan for when you have an event (reunion, wedding, etc.) coming up or need to break a plateau. I used it for the plateau. It's food and his workout - although I used Cathe but planned her to mimic his concept. The food is clean and scarce. It's very simple: ABCDE and F. Off limits for 2 weeks are:

alcohol
bread
starchy carbs
dairy
extra sweets
fats and fruits

That leaves you with non-starch veggies and lean protein. Oh - and no coffee - that was my hardest thing. Workouts are 1-2 hours per day.

THIS IS NOT A PLAN FOR EVERYONE. It's very hard, and I am amazed that I did it. But it broke my plateau! (I went from 133 to 127 in the 2 weeks - and as a result on continuing with clean eating I'm down to 125.) Only consider this if you KNOW you can truly commit. It is more worthwhile than I can say.
 
L Sass, kudos to you for sticking with Kirsch's plan for a full 2 weeks. I could only do it for 3 days and I could even tell a difference then. WOW! It is hard!!

Yup, it's the sodium! Just like everyone else has suggested. If you can get up to drinking a gallon of water a day, it won't happen as badly, and it will clear up faster.

Since I've started Cathe, I sweat so much that I drink 2 gallons a day, LOL. Just keep a one liter bottle with you. Fill it up 4 times during the day, and that's just over one gallon drunk.
 
Actually, the eating plan sounds just like South Beach Diet except on SBD you can have no fat and low fat dairy.
