Question for runners re: shoes & socks

Help! I need anti-blister advice.

I have wide feet. I love Ascics (sp?) and I've tried Saucony & Avia. I've found that microfiber socks work the best for me (I can't have any fibers). BUT I still get blisters on my instep--right on the side, halfway between the ball of my foot and my heel. By the time I get a pair of shoes broken in enough that I don't get blisters, they are worn out.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would love to run more often--my feet give out long before my legs or my heart.

Thorlo socks work well.
Also, use something like Bodyglide on the places that get blisters.

(Not a runner, but we walkers log in long miles!;-) )

I highly recommend Thorlo socks. Not sure how that will affect your need for no fibers, but they hug my feet and provide light cushioning at the same time. Paired with Asics Gel Kayanos = Very, Very comfy.

no real advice. I never had trouble with blisters before but I got a new pair of Nike's a few months ago and now I get blisters on my big toe on the side. I think the toe box may be to narrow for me. I tried slimmer microfiber socks and it seems to help but if I'm really doing high intensity cardio it starts again. Sometimes I quit early too because of it. I may get new shoes. Goodluck finding some that work for you.
My DH runs and swears by New balance.. I may try that next.

This used to happen to me when I was running more miles. I stopped getting blisters just by wearing two socks on each foot. It must have given more padding, or stopped my feet from sliding around.

It's worth a try.?.

Just a quick thought: for wide feet, have you tried being fitted with a man's running shoe? It could solve all your problems.

I started buying Wright running socks (bought at our local running store) on my sister's advice. I trained and ran 2 marathons, and 1 half marathon with these socks. They are thin with a double layer and I have never had 1 blister. I do have fairly normal feet, width etc. though. I went from Nike running shoes to Ascics that I also bought at a local running store. I ran on the treadmill and the guy there recommended a shoe for me by watching my footfall etc. I've bought the same Ascics shoes again. Hope this may help you some. I also use Body Glide for any and everywhere-especially my thigh and bra area.

Thanks for all the replies. I have tried Thorlo--love them but still get blisters. Trying men's shoes might help--as well as the double, thin socks.

I'd really like to try Bodyglide. Where do you get it?
