question for hairdresser/colorists??

If there are any colorists out there I have need for your expertise. Here is a long story short...
1]was not thrilled w/ colorist so decided to try someone new
2] brought pictures to new person
3] specifically brought a picture of too dark coloring so I would not repeat that hair color
4] had tons low light and high light foils

My hair looks absolutely awful. It's extremely dark. It's actually darker than my picture that I told her I did not like and said it was too dark. My hair feels dry and color is ever so slowly washing out.

How long do I have to wait until I ask someone else to lighten my hair? I don't have the healthiest hair to begin with so I want to do the right thing. I just cringe every time I see myself in the mirror. It's that bad. I wanted to cry afterward. I was looking for a mixture of light and dark similar to Giselle Bunchan {sp?] and recieved witchy dark, dark [almost black] hair with uneven thick highlights.

Wow, I'm sorry about your coloring experience!!! I have been a colorist for over 20 yrs., so here is my 2 cents... First, you should try some deep conditioning, perhaps in the salon where you got your coloring done. As nicely as possible, tell the owner that you aren't happy with the results, and bring in the picture you originally brought in. If its been less than 2 weeks since you had your color done, they should at least not charge you for the treatments. Then, you need a consultation with another colorist before you do anything to your hair again. They will be able to determine when and if you are ready to re-lighten it. It may or may not require alot of corrective work; I can't tell unless I see it!!! They may be able to throw a few highlights just around your face to tide you over if your hair can take it, in the meantime. Hope this helps; good luck, Nancy J.~~~~

I agree with Kaylasmom.
Conditioning under the dryer may release and lighten. Less damaging.
Color fades. It will lighten as all color even as they claim it won't..
If you have baby hair. This is the best option.

Few foils may work, but i would let he hair harden and heal a couple weeks , so you don't end up breaking..

And the last resort at home fixer..
I did not say this..
Liquid tide.... hiding in shame, but it will pull the color out..
Just really condition after..

Ok tucking that Tide comment away for future use ,lol!

It will fade! I know how you feel. I changed stylists and have my hair colored brown to cover my gray and then highlighted heavily. I told her I wanted to keep it about the same color - walked out with dark brown hair! But it has faded in the past 2 weeks and doesn't look so bad now (or I've gotten use to it:p )

Thanks for all the feed back. I really appreciate it! I'm going to condition as suggested and do my very best to ride this out for atleast 6 weeks. I don't think I should attempt anything before that time. I'm afraid my hair will be really broken otherwise. I don't know where the magic 6 weeks number came in. Guess it just sounded good to me:( Thank you agian for your expertise.
