Question for figure/fitness competitors

I know that a few of you on these boards have competed and placed in various fitness competitions. If you have a moment, could you share what your diet was like as you were training -- not immediately pre-competition, but while training? And what kind of supplements did you include? If it's not too much trouble. TIA

No trouble at all. There are some pics in my profile if you want to check them out. Ugh...the diet was the hardest part w/o a doubt. I hated it! However, I was already fairly lean so I didn't have to worry about lowering my body fat. It was pretty much the same as changing up your diet based on the type of body you have. That was the key. I lifted as heavy as possible up to the end since I didn't have a lot of fat to use. The key thing for me was learning the poses (I did figure, not fitness) and walking in heels. Literally, I walked all the time at home (even while cleaning) in my "hooker" heels. For whatever reason, I cannot load the Excel file for the 12 weeks out guide, but if you pm me, I'm happy to send it to you! Posing is key and I can't stress that enough. I had photos taken every few weeks and also had them critiqued by people I trusted who had competed in the past.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions.

Uh, Lorrie. Would you like to share anything with us? :)

When I was doing Body-For-Life religiously, the bodyforlifetracker.com site was a HUGE supply of knowledge and info. There were many women there who were competing in different competitions. And from what I've read there, yeah, the diet IS the hardest thing since it's so strict and disciplined.

Hey there -

The diet is definitly the hardest part! Its actually the only real thing that matters.
Lifting just depends on what federation you're entering, for how much/little muscle you need.
Some women can get away with a lot in their prep, being an endomorph however, I cannot.
A good coach will have you on a diet that will work with you. Depending on your body type and how you respond to certain training and foods, that will determine what kind of diet you will have. Some do low carb, some do low fat, all do high protein.. its just depends.

As for supplements, are you looking for ideas for yourself? What are your goals and where do you currently stand with them?

I, personally, have protein powder(obviously), TONS of BCAA's (tablet and powder form). I also take SURGE (great for recovery after hard lifting) and Se7en (great for building muscle, maintaining leaness and reducing fat).

A lot of girls love the HotRox, which is a thermogenic. If you struggle with fat loss it might be a good option.

There are plenty opf good supplements out there to stack together for great, natural results.
