Question for experienced Catheites and Cathe.....

JAFitMama

Cathlete
OK, here is my situation. I have DOMS in my thighs, which is highly unusal for me. So far this week my workouts included:
Monday~ Viper entirely, tennis match
Tuesday~ Treadmill intense interval run 30" and 30" yoga type stretch, tennis match

Wed ~ Today I was planning on a "Cathe circuit workout" and abs. Should I do as planned and work through the soreness? Or does any educated person have a better idea?

Thursday ~ 30" cardio choice (non step) abs and 30" stretch
Friday~ Cathe circuit workout
Sat~ long stretch and abs

I welcome comments:)

Hi Judy-

Not Cathe, but felt the need to give you my suggestion...

If its pretty bad DOMS, than I would suggest giving your lower body a rest and doing a challenging upper body and abs workout today. If you have PUB that would definitely be the ticket.

Then depending how you feel tomorrow, do a pretty intense cardio for a bit longer tomorrow and skip abs tomorrow.

Take care, Lynn M.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is DOMS?

Sometimes I wish there was a key/legend for all these abbreviations. :)

As long as you think that your legs can handle cardio today, I would switch up your workouts for today and tomorrow and then maybe add another "30" cardio choice (non step) abs and 30" stretch" day for Friday. Like this:

W - 30" cardio choice (non step) abs and 30" stretch
T - "Cathe circuit workout" and abs.
F - 30" cardio choice (non step) abs and 30" stretch

The reason why I suggest this is that 1) you will get a workout in and 2) you will some cardio and a nice stretch afterwards. You will heat up those muscles and then stretch them out nicely, which should alleviate that soreness. I find this a good method for dealing with soreness. If I take the day off, the soreness sometimes gets worse the following day.

Good Luck! :)

Christine and Lynn thanks for the reply~
Here is what I did. Today I did Supersets as produced and added pikes and tuck on Stability ball from KPC. I did get through all the legs parts; the explosive lunges and the one legged squats were ouchie! I chose Supersets because it can be easier in some spots but still a good upper body workout with heavier weight choices.

Had I read you reply, Christine, I would have gone with your suggestion. Tomorrow I will go with the cardio and a very good stretch.

Thank you for responding :)

If I am pretty sore, it gets worse if I TOTALLY rest. Some cardio and a healthy stretch really helps me! Late that evening, I'll have the DH give me a rub down!:)
