Question for educated crowd....

Hi everyone. It is Janice back with another question!!

Next week I will be ending a 4 week rotation of S&H. I did each tape once a week. I am trying to figure out what I want to do next week. I really want to get nice muscle definition (don't we all!) without losing a lot of strength.

My first idea was to do a PS rotation with either MIS or PH tacked on. But I recall what some of the educated crowd remarked about this.....that PS is quite enough and to not tack another tape onto this series per week.

BUT, I think my general knowledge concerning maximum muscle hypertrophy is that it is best to work each muscle group 2-3 times per week, for the best gains in size. Is this not correct??

I ask because I really liked S&H, but it just didn't feel like enough lifting to me. I really like total body workouts too, but like the extra work each part gets in the PS series.

If I am not focusing on optimum strength, can someone please tell me what their logic is behind not doing the PS series with another total body weight tape in the same week???

Thanks in advance for all the sure to be wonderful advice..

Would you be willing to invest in the book Body RX? It's quite a fantastic program with everything laid out for you and lots of folks on this forum seem to be doing it.

Hi Janice!

I too just finished up with a S&H rotation last month. Since the last week of September, I've been doing Power Hour 2x per week, and MIS 1x per week. I have seen *incredible* results with this rotation! Lots of definition, and I think I've even experienced further gains, because I swear since I've been on this my biceps have increased noticeably! I think an 'endurance' orientation is a great transition from S&H, to sculpt and define the muscle you've added.

Just my .02

Happy Workouts!!

I remember advice on this forum stating that after S&H it is a good idea to do an endurance rotation for a change to your muscles. Why not try a rotation with PH &/or Body Max. Both of these are more on the "endurance" side.

Lots of great advice..Thanks!!

Edith...funny you say that....I am currently the proud owner of the BodyRx book. You might see that on some of the other threads. I like the plan, but the workout routine is non Cathe and I am sticking to Cathe's for now. I know Body Rx has you doing each body part once per week, but for me, so far, this has not seem to help my muslce growth all that much. All the Body Rx'ers talk about strength gains, but what about muslce size??? Anyone?? Mindi?? Kathy??

I was hoping Annette or Honeybunch would answer this one, as I seem to remember those two as being some of the proponents agains combining PS or S&H with a total body tape. What I want to know is what is the scientific logic behind not doing this? Some seem to think it is "too much", but why?? Especially if I was to say I did MIS twice this week no one would think it was too much, what is the difference??

Nicole...that is a really good idea and is actually what I am thinking. Nice to hear it is working for you. I will try it!!

Janice,
I'll try to respond if you tell me the format of each workout is. I don't have PS or S&H, so without knowing the structure, I can't help much.

Maribeth..

I really don't know how to describe the format other than PS breaks up body parts..back/bi, chest/tri..etc. each tape being approx 1 hour. PH or MIS would be total body with possibly one less exercise per body part?? Everyone here advocates PS once per week(each tape) so that you are only hitting each body part once per week. Some here have said that any more than this would be "too much". However, MIS three times per week or a PH/MIS rotation with each tape being done once a week for a total of 2 total body workouts would NOT be too much. Why??

I am thinking of a rotation with PH (an endurance tape)twice per week and MIS ( a strength tape) once per week. Do you think this is too much weight work, assuming I am getting enough sleep and enough calories??

Thanks for your help..
