Question for all the artists out there

I have an artist question.
My sweet 77 year old dad is a very talented artist who paint oil portraits. He has quite a collection of paintings of various sports figures....Nolan Ryan,Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Ali, etc. that are just collecting dust because trying to sell them is just not his thing. I would like to help, but don't know how to go about it.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Gin

Not an artist, but dd's art teacher is. He has gallery shows all over the place. Some of them are in NYC, Philly, and surrounding Philadephia areas. The smaller ones are at local galleries where they sell art and framing services. Sometimes, he organizes group showings with other artists. Once a year he puts on a show for 12 of his best adult students. This summer he's planning on a show for his younger students at the local community music hall. There are costs involved though. He pays for the invitations and opening party.

Oh, another thing, dd's art teacher also provides marketing services for local artists. They pay him a fee and he helps them or coaches them on how to market their art. Maybe you could find someone in your area with connections that does this type of service.

My dd is so excited. She's only shown her work two times publically. Both were in a framing store promoting children art work. The children weren't selling their art. They had a cute contest where customers could vote on their favorite piece. The framing store gave each young artist some art supplies, free matting, and coupons for customized framing. Anyhow, one of their customers expressed an interest in purchasing my dd's art. She ended up making her first sale at the tender age of 7 for $50 of an unframed, pastel drawing of a vase of tulips. He planned on hanging it in his kitchen. If I knew how to post pictures, I'd show you. It boosted her self esteem tremedously!

I am a self-taught "dabbler" in the art world. I would check out local galleries, they love to support local talent!:)

I am a self-taught artist as well. I agree with the previous response, to check out local galleries. Also, you may want to pick up the "2007 Artist's & Graphic Designer's Market" book. It lists galleries and what they like. It also has a lot of information on how to sell your artwork.
