Question for all P90X grads.

Ladies,
I am contemplating to start an inspired P90X rotation with Cathe's workouts. My question is this. I still would like to loose about 10lbs. My body structure is a V shape, with wide shoulders and back and small hips and buttock. There is not much cardio in this rotation and I was wondering if it would be enough to loose the weight.
I am also in the proces of reading BFFM and according to his teaching if you want to loose weight and BF, you need 5-6 days of cardio/week. I am willing to put 60-75 minutes of exercise/day but not 90min. day in day out. Should I do more of a rotation concentrating on loosing BF as well as toning and them proceed to the P90X rotation?
Although I have been seeing results (more definition in the upper body) I can't say I've seen any difference in weight and BF loss.
I appreciate any feddback you ladies can give me. ;)

Part of P90X is the dietary plan. You will see more results by following that plan. That being said...before the X I was doing 4-5 days a week of cardio. Obviously, that was cut drastically with the program. I became much more defined and lost weight and body fat on this program. I have to say, too, that I did not follow the dietary plan as written (maybe that is an understatement!). You can lose body fat and weight on this program. I don't think, though, you can design a program using Cathe's dvds that will mimic P90X. The approach to weight training is entirely different. Most of Cathe's weight training is endurance based and P90X comes from a completely different perspective.

Since completing the X, I have been doing 2-3 days a week of cardio and doing all of Cathe's weight work. I have been able to improve on the gains that I made with P90X. I just think it is hard to do a faux X rotation without having done the original version. It's just my opinion...and I hope this does not come off the wrong way. Please visit our Xer check in on the Check-in and Challenges forum and you may get some different perspectives.

Good luck with your fitness goals...and I have to say...I wish I had your problem of having small hips and buttocks!!

Thanks for posting this question, I am really interested in getting more information about the P90X program.

If you don't mind, could someone share with me the general philosophy of this program, and what sort of rotation it uses?

Also, what sort of fitness level should one be before taking on "the X"?

P90X is a 90-day rotation designed for folks who are already fit and looking to reach a new level of fitness or break a plateau. (There's a fit test that you are advised to take beforehand to be sure that you're ready. E.g. you should be able to hold a wall squat for 1 minute, do at least 3 on-your-toes pushups, do 10 biceps curls with an 8 lb. weight, and so on. Generally, if you've been doing Cathe, you can handle this program.) The basic program emphasizes more weights than cardio, but you can tweak this if you wish. During the 90 days, there are three 4-week phases. During each phase, you have three weeks of more intense workouts followed by one week of recovery.

I did the Classic program (usually subbing for the cardio) but did not follow the eating plan. Lost no weight but I *did* lose inches and made noticeable strength gains.

^^ The everything you'll ever need/want to know thread!

If you do a search for P90X you'll find hundreds of threads about Faux rotations... I agree with ^ poster Debra..... You cannot duplicate the X with Cathe collection UNLESS you alter how you lift and use Mix n Match - You also would have to do freestyle back work and already know what X philosophy is.... Its a worthy investment and it will give you a gfoundation to use Cathe in new ways for yourself.

Ladies,
Thank you so much for sharing all that information with us. I read most of the thread on the P90X system and I am "almost" convinced to give it a try. What attracts me to it is the lean rotation that I could do first. However I have one question. Can you substitute another cardio for CardioX? I cannot do plyos as I have serious low back problems and those are out of the question for me.
Again I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.
Have a great day :)

Well you've convinced me. I just ordered the P90X system. I'll be traveling to the US next week and it should be there for me. I will finish my present rotation, I ma doing FitnessFreak's lean rotation and will start P90X in September. It should give me time to study the program and get acquainted with it.
Thanks for sharing.;)

Christiane- GOOD FOR YOU! I think it changes how most of us workout forever!
When you start please join us at the Xer daily checkin- Theres X Grads, XX Grads and those who are just using X once in a while to supplement their routines...Some of us are starting another round Oct / Nov (same time we did it last year) - We'd love to have ya!

TraciX,
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm a little "scared" but I am definitely looking forward to it. I'll make sure to join the forum to share my experience. I hope there are some "over 50" within the group... But if you put your mind to something great things can happen. So you'll hear from me in September or October...

Hi Christiane,

I just started P90X and completed my first week of the lean program. I am 63 years old. I can not do a pushup on my toes yet (but close)nor can I do a pull up. I was plateaued at 157 when I started and this morning I am 154. I stuck with the program but did try a Cathe step routine on my rest day just for fun. I didn't think I would ever do any kickboxing moves but love the Kempox in this and am looking forward to Cathes new dvd when it comes out as I now feel I will like doing this and be able to do it by the time I finish P90X. There are some tough moves in the Core and yoga workouts. I found yoga really hard since I had never done it and I am pretty stiff at my age. You just do what you can and it is ok to hit pause and rest before continuing. There are probably some moves I will never be able to do but I can do 75%. You will need to get a pull up bar or some bands for the pull up exercises. They also show you how use a chair assist for these. As long as you do some pushups from your knees you should be ok. So far with the lean phase I have not had to do many push ups although he does incorporate some in the yoga moves. The nutrition book is really well done and I have made 3 of the receipes and all of them are good. You will probably want to look for some protein powder as they are big on making sure you get enough. I use Any Whey as it is not flavored and you can mix it in with regular food.

So if I can do most of it at my age you should be able to also.
Let us know what you think.

Susandean,
WOW, that is great! It shows that with proper attitude you can do whatever you want at any age. I can do push-up from my toes thanks to Cathe. It depends on days, anywhere from 10-30 and how my shoulders feel. Still looking at doing the 72 from Gym Style... in my dreams!
As for the pullups that will be tricky. We live in an appartment in Luxembourg where there are no moldings whatsoever on door frames. So I'll have to see what kind of invention I can come up with. I was looking at my husbands' Bowflex unit yesterday to see if I can use the top bar to do them. I haven't seen anything in the book saying not to hang from the bar but I suspect I shouldn't.
Thanks to all of you for the information regarding P90X. I am looking forward to the program and will probably check-in with you for support.
Have a great weekend all.:+
