Question for all dog owners

I think my vet no longer sells the Advantix, I think because of problems with it. Frontline for my pooch works well and she seems to have no ill affects.

Carola,

You're so funny! I'm glad that us getting Gizmo helped you make up your mind to get a third dog. I work with a gal who has FOUR labs, so I looked at her and thought I could surely add a third dog. :) Your puppy is absolutely adorable!!!!

Gizmo's doing so good. He's just the sweetest little fella. He's the best puppy you could ever imagine having. We just adore every move he makes. :) He thinks his name includes the word cute I'm pretty sure. I'll have to have DH take some more pics and do an update. He sleeps with his little tongue hanging halfway out the side of his mouth all the time. On the one hand it breaks my heart but on the other hand it's the cutest thing you've ever seen.

It sounds like your dogs are getting better. I'm so happy to hear that. Hang in there!

Suz

Thanks Colleen, apester, Amy and dorothyrd for your kind words and advise, I truly appreciate it!

I had no idea that so many dogs had adverse reactions to K9Advantix, never even thought about it, I trusted my vet. However, after my dogs got sick, I did some research on the Internet and I was stunned as to how many dogs have reactions to it. It seems like everyone on the forum had much better experience with Frontline.

I think the problem with giving any drug to pets is, that they can’t talk, you can only guess as to what happened. Is your cat doing okay, Amy?

Aside from the 3 dogs, we also have three cats, that’s why it’s even more aggravating because the vet knew about the cats, and they still prescribed it, they just told me to “keep the cats away until the Advantix dries”. No word that the active ingredient in Advantix, Permethrin, has horrendous effects on cats (seizures, death), because they can’t metabolize it.

Hi Suz, yap, I think you did me a huge favor to get Gizmo, because it gave me an excuse to get Scooter and aside from marrying my husband and having my kids, he is the best thing that ever happened to me. He is just the cutest!! My husband keeps joking that I pay more attention to the puppy than to him – wonder if he is really joking?? :p

Scooter keeps following me and jumps on our bed in the morning, and pounces on ME (not my DH) and gives me wet puppy kisses when it’s time for his run which would be around 4 am x( . So I am on a pretty regular exercise schedule now, less Cathe though, but maybe I can teach him to do IntervalMax with me.}(
I take him with me everywhere (at least wherever dogs are allowed), sometimes he even goes to work with me. I should promote him to marketing director and make him tax-deductible – hmmmm, there is an idea, wonder what the IRS would say to that. :+

The pictures of your dogs are just too cute, Gizmo is adorable, especially the ears and the tongue thing are adorable. Funny how a puppy can find their way into our hearts, isn’t it? Keep me posted on how Gizmo (love that name, by the way) is doing.

Take care,

Carola

Wow Carola - Scooter sounds really special. I'm so glad you got him! :)

I guess it's time for another Gizmo update soon. I've got to get DH to take some new pics. Right now he's lying on the floor (Gizmo, not DH) and his one ear that used to stick up is flopped over to the wrong side of his head and his little tongue is hanging out the side of his mouth. So cute. I can't imagine my lifeout animals.

Yes, I have a very special dog, I bet everyone else thinks so about their own dog - and they should. Dogs are very special friends! I couldn't imagine my life without my puppy anymore. He is such a sweetheart. I am seriously thinking about gettin another Aussie. I guess, if I do the dog will move in and DH will move out :)

I can't figure out how to put more pictures on the picture trail but then again I am technically challenged.

Hope everything is well, keep me posted on Gizmos!

Take care,

Carola

Gosh Carola! How awful. Living here, where did these millions of ticks come from? Are all your pups okay? I'm a dog lover, I have a golden and a pug. I used to have an english mastiff but we lost him a few months ago:(

Hi Curly,

almost missed your post here. Honestly, I am not sure where those gazillion ticks came from. I have had my yellow lab for 10 years and the German Shepard mix for 8 years and we only had a couple of ticks on the second dog when we got him from the pound.

So I was totally surprised to all over sudden have this tick infestation, especially here in AZ. First I thought it was due to the dog park, but noone else had a problem there, other than a tick or two, here or there.

My hair dresser (she has 5 or 6 dogs at any given time, she volunteers for RESCUE) asked me yesterday, if the new puppy was digging a lot, because she had a tick problem (not to the extent that I did, but still) when she had her two Rottweiler puppies who were digging a lot and she was told that those nasty critters live in soil.

That's when I started thinking, it maybe because my husband started one of his home improvement projects a few weeks ago in the backyard. He is digging up the whole back yard (and we have a lot of grass), putting in pavers, built-in BBQ, etc. And that's the time frame, the dogs all over sudden were overrun by ticks.

I am so sick and tired of living in Construction Central, so, can I move into the basement of your mansion}( :p until he is done??

How is your pool coming along?

Talk to you soon!

Carola

You silly gal!!!
If you moved into our basement you wouldn't want to leave, did I mention there's a 92 inch tv on the wall!!!! LOL!!!!

That makes sense about the tix, how frightening! Are they okay now?

My pool should be done by next week!!!! We are getting pavers too. I"m so excited, don't you just love how they look. You're sick of construction, my neighborhood isn't done yet and the wind we've been getting made me feel like the Wizard of Oz!!

Well, geeh, that's the whole point, I would never move out, now that you tell me that there is a 92" tv on the wall. My husband is laying pavers in our backyard. But I decided I needed to go on a seminar on Tuesday, so I am out of town, hopefully, everything is done by the time I am back Friday morning - you wish!

I guess the dogs are ok. I found a couple of ticks on the Aussie on Monday, but my husband said he hadn't seen any while I was gone.

You know, I have been living in constuction central for the past two years, ripped out the bathrooms, ripped out the kitchen, you name it. I don't know why, because we'll never get back what we have been putting in and we do need to move. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my house, but it is too small for 2 kids, 2 adults, 3 dogs, 3 cats. However, my house has just gone down in price from $ 315 to around $ 290k, can you tell I am my own worst real estate consultant :) I think we will sell eventually by the end of the year, but with my backyard being ripped up, I can't put that thing on the market right now. I am so ticked off that he wants to redo the whole backyard because it really will barely give us what we put in (luckily I don't have to pay anyone for the work, I am only paying for the material - but that's bad enough!). So we'll be moving into a new house and start it all over again, rip out the bathrooms, rip out the kitchen, redo the backyard, goodie!!!!!

I will be done with my seminar tomorrow night and will be back Friday morning. I only have limited access to Internet, there are 400 people in my seminar and only 2 computers in the business center. That works real well, NOT!

Love pavers by the way, what kind of pavers are you getting? We have the tumbled ones on one side of the backyard, and we are getting the ones that look like slate on the patio, together with the built-in BBQ , fridge and bar with granite counters right off the patio.

I am not getting the wizard of oz thing, what's the thing aoubt the wind?

Take care,

Carola
