Question about weight gain

Hello everyone! I have been working out for several years now, but all of a sudden I have put on about 7 pounds in 3 months. Sure this doesn't seem a lot, but my diet hasn't changed. I have increased my weights, but I don't think the 3 pounds (out of the 7) I have gained in the last week would account for muscle gain. I know I have been staying hydrated, but am I overly hydrating or is this fat I am gaining? I can see some difference in my thighs, but I don't know if it is more fat or muscle being built with the fat on top:(

My exercise regiment hasn't changed too much either. I do change it up, of course, but I stick with 3-4 cardio sessions a week (1 step, 1 Bosu, 1 hi/lo, 1 eliptical) and the Gym Style Series right now (each body part, plus 1 day w/ Muscle Max).

I really don't want to add all of this weight, as my pants are getting a little snug, yet if it is muscle gain I might be more okay with it. I know that muscle weighs more than fat, but how much of muscle can one gain in a week?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated:D

Is it an age thing? The metabolism slowing down as you get older? I have just begun to encounter this one, I'm 33.
Or, maybe you are not eating enough calories. Sometimes that can slow the metabolism.
Or, do you need to shake up your routine. Maybe it's too consistant, and your body needs a little surprise.
What about adding an interval workout once a week or even twice for a month?
Just some thoughts,
Heather

Heather,
Thanks for the response. I eat around what the nutritionist told me to eat, and it hasn't really changed in the past month. I do intensity workouts once a week, usually in place of an aerobic workout. Say, for step, I will do IMAX or something like it. As far as age, hopefully not this much weight in a short period of time. Thanks for your help. I will mention it to the nutritionist and see what she has to say. I do mix up my workouts, but I only posted what I have done in the past 2 weeks. I usually switch up the type of weight training every 2-4 weeks (from Pyramids, GS, and Full Body). Maybe I need to incorporate more rest time.
:D

Hello Heather
I was reading about you gaining weight and there are no changes on your diet nor on your exercises. I know how frustrated is when you are trying to do everything correct, your diet and workout.I started to have the same problem and I had same questions as you did. I had some blood work done and my problem was the thyroids. I am still on treatment and they rise my heartbeats and is like double work for me
to loose weight or at least get in shape because I can't do cardio.
Whenever I try them I feel that my heart want to explode and need to stand in front of a fan to get some air.
I suggest you to call your doctor and let him/her know about the problem, then go from there.
Take care... :)

It may be summer heat swelling , or that time of the month.
I gained a few when i started eating 5 or 6 times a day , then started loosing eating more.. Now i die w/out food all day.
Love the gymstyles though...
Wouldn't worry about it unless you are eating cake and ice cream

I am not eating cake and ice cream that is for sure (although I do lightly splurge once a week). Perhaps I need to cut out more carbs, but I feel like the carbs are benefical as long as they are good carbs. They assist in proper functioning and energy levels. I do eat about 5 meals per day (sometimes 6), but I have been doing that for quite some time. I have to go to the doctor on Tuesday, so hopefully he will have some suggestions. I actually lose weight when I am on my cycle, but I sure do feel bloated.

Thanks for your input. I will keep you updated.:)
