Question about STS legs and knee problems

Hi Cathe!

I just completed week 3 legs of mesocycle 2. I am having issues with my knees. :( I have no problem doing squats with heavier weights, but I start having knee pain doing the lunge exercises about halfway through the DVD. I've been really careful to make sure my knees stay in line with my ankles. I've been using lighter weights and not going as deep, but by the end of the program, I'm not comfortable doing the lunge exercises. Do you have suggestions for modifications or substitutions? I was thinking of using no weights at all for lunges so I can at least get through the entire DVD. I also modify the one leg sit and stands so that all of my weight is not on one leg, and I don't do the one leg sit and slides anymore, because my knee tends to go over the toe... same issue with the plate slide lunges, the knee goes over the toe. Please help!!!

Overall... I am LOVING STS!!! I pre-ordered STS cardio, and I'm looking forward to getting it in the fall.

Thanks for all you do! :D

I don't claim to be an expert at all. But I know that many people prefer to do lunges onto the topper of the high step (or the club step) or onto an incline. This seems to be easier on the knees. You need to really push off from the step/incline with your heels so make sure you get the work back up through your glutes.

Wow Nancy - that's great advice. I'm going to try that. I already know I have knee issues and I have to do the leg STS workout tomorrow.
