Question about soreness, or lack of it

I've been using the Pyramid series, Pure Strength Legs, and the Slow and Heavy series. I feel I'm using the heaviest weight I can, I'm barely making the last couple reps ("shakin like a chihuahua" lol) but I rarely get sore. I feel like I should be sore, like I'm cheating or something. I did get just a little sore when I started the S&H tapes but I wonder... am I not lifting enough weight? I appreciate any comment from anyone. Thanks.

DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) isn't necessary for strength gains to occur. As long as your last two reps are difficult (and it sounds like they are!) and you can't do one more with good form, you are doing your best effort. I often don't get sore from S&H (which was suprising to me), but I definitely am benefitting from the workout.

Thanks Kathryn. Sometimes I get sore from the easiest things, like the first long walk in the spring after the snow is finally gone, but I can lift my heart out and feel fine. It just leaves me with the feeling that I'm not accomplishing, but thanks for telling me I am.

Hi Pam,

just had to reply, I'm the same way, I seldom get sore from strength workouts even though I'm shaking with the last reps, and could really not do any more weight (with proper form). I've been wondering about the same thing, but come to the conclusion that our bodies just all react differently, because I'm definitely getting results with the workouts also. What I do feel afterwards instead of soreness though, is a certain "tiredness" of the muscles, but this often happens the same day of the workout (I workout in the mornings), not the next day. I've come to understand this "tiredness" as a sign of working hard enough.
