Question about soreness after weight workouts?

First off, Hi! I'm new here, I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally decided to join.

I workout five times a week, an hour each time. Usually I do three days of cardio and two of strength. My issue is that I'm very rarely getting sore. I switch up the strength videos I'm doing, and I do challenge myself with the weights. Is this okay, and will I get good results even if I'm not getting any soreness?

Hi there :)

how long have you been working out? If you feel that you are getting the results you want, then i'd say you're doing the right thing. i know what you mean, i always feel strangely rewarded by some good DOMS. however, it's really more about your results, so i'd say pay more attention to that.

welcome :)

You could just be recovering efficiently, which is a good thing.

As long as you feel challenged in your weight workouts (the last 2 reps of each set should be tough but doable) and are seeing results, I wouldn't worry about DOMS or lack of it.

I have read many times that DOMs are not the best indicater of whether or not you are gaining strength. That being said, I still feel like need them to feel "worked out".

I don't get too much soreness either. I do challenge myself, and lift 15 pound weights for my arms, back, and chest.

I think for a girl - this is pretty good! :)

I do 3 sets of 12, and after the 2nd set I am ready to put down those bad boys. :)

Good luck!

Since back and chest muscles are much larger than arm muscles, you might try to lift heavier on them for best results (though 15# for arms is 'pretty good for a girl!") For example, when I use 15# for biceps, I use 25-35# for chest and back. Of course, it depends somewhat on the exercises you do (ie: one can usually lift more with chest presses than with flyes).
