Question about Sit n' Stands

faiza

Cathlete
Hello Everyone!

Do sit n' stands work the quads or the glutes? I feel them in both areas but I was wondering which muscle group this exercise targets mostly.

Thanks much :)

Faiza

faiza,

i am not totally sure but like you i feel it in both areas. but if i had to guess it would be quads but i might be wrong on that.

Thanks for the responses!

Twosquared, Cathe does this exercise in Leaner Legs, Pure Strength Legs and also in High Step Training Advanced. You place a barbell on your shoulders and with the high step right behind you, assume a narrow squat stance and then sit on the high step. You then raise yourself up (avoiding momentum) and hold the squat for a few counts before sitting back down again. It's a tough exercise!

Thank you. I don't have any of the workouts mentioned, I did notice this on one of the video clips once, now I am in the know.
Thanks much.

Hover squats are a little different in that you do not actually sit on the step. With a Sit n' Stand, it's to 8 counts - from a standing position you literally sit on the step (counts 1 and 2) then you lift up only about and inch or two and hold through count 7 and stand on count 8.

Robyn - I learned to lower my weights on this one the hard way! I went to heavy and about died on the lunges. I simply had to stare at her as she finished up. Went lighter and did a lot better. I think you were the one to suggest that - thanks... I love what this workout does in 30 minutes, but the ouch factor is really high!

Those hover squats kill my back. I absolutely hate them. I think my form is right, my back doesn't like them, especially when she does the lowend version. I can do about 2-3 sets and thats it! I feel it in my quads and butt, but more so in the back.:(

Hi Fab40,

I have a suggestion for you. I also had some lower back pain when doing this exercise until I realized I had lowered my head. Now I make sure to keep my head lifted and do not experience any back pain.

Hope this helps.

Ohhh, I love those. They primarily target the quads, but of course the glutes get involved too. Just like lunges primarily target the glutes, but get the quads too.
