Question about Netflix

The choices on Movies-On-Demand are abysmal, and my DH and I are too lazy to return videos. We watch maybe 2-3 movies per month, and I saw that Netflix now has less expensive plans for people like us. For example, we can rent one DVD at a time, unlimited, for about $10/mo, or even rent no more than 2 DVDs per month for $5/mo. Sounds good, and I know there are no shipping costs, but here's my big question:

HOW DO YOU MAIL THE DVDS BACK?

Do we have to go to the UPS store, or the Post Office? If so, it's easier to go to the video store, which is closer. The Netflix website doesn't address this. Thanks!

They send you the DVD in an envelope with 2 sides. To return it, you tear off one of the sides and re-seal it with the sticker edge and send the DVD back in the same envelope.

You stick the envelope in your outgoing mail. No post office necessary.

I'm glad my boss had Netflix before we signed up; I was confused too! ;)

Yes, you put it right in the mailbox. I am ready to sign up again for summer since the repeats will be starting. Melissa

Ame, I hate to be so thick about this, but the last time I mailed out a DVD (it was a Cathe DVD ;) ), I had to take it to the office and have the mail room deal with it. As I recall, dropping it in the mailbox was not an option. I mail my letters and cards by dropping them in the mailbox on my way to work. If I can't do that with Netflix, then it makes no sense for me to sign up.

Isn't there a limit to the size of a letter you can mail? I'm pretty clueless about this stuff.

The DVDs are not in a case at all. Does that help?

Generally, the limit is imposed by the size of the slot in the box you're trying to put the envelopes in! Netflix has a good deal.

The DVDs are just in a paper envelope that identifies the movie, then the paper envelope slides into the red mailing envelope. So, unless the mailbox slot is extremely steep or something, the DVD will fit without any issue. The rest of the red mailing envelope has nothing rigid and can comply with almost anything.

I think you were assuming the Netflix DVDs came in a case. They do not.

Ahhhhhhh. Okay. Now I get it. Yup, I was assuming they were in a case. This is excellent. Can't wait to sign up! :D

They have workouts on there, too!!! I've rented out a bunch that have been discussed here, like Amy Bento's abs & stretch.... :D

Cool!!! I'm excited for you to sign up! :)

If you belong to a GPT site, such as cash4beads.com, you can make money for signing up. Just a thought. I know I did blockbuster.com and got paid $34 to sign up for it:)

Nancy, DH and I have been members of Netflix for several years now and LOVE it!!! It's super easy and what's awesome is that you *can* keep the movies as long as you like. I know that I have kept one for almost 2 months because of time constraints~! I also love that they have workouts that you can rent! That's where I first tried Jari Love!

Does anyone have an opinion regarding which plan to use? My DH said he would prefer to use the lowest price one at first, just to see if we like it and use it. If we find we want more, he said we can always go up to the next level. But with all the great selections, I think I might want to watch more than 2 movies per month, which is the lowest level plan. For those who have it, which plan are you using and how is it working for you? Are you getting 1 movie at a time, 2 at a time, or 3 at a time? Thanks.

We have been using Netflix for almost 2 years and love it. We get 3 at a time and it works well for us. I live in a small town with only 1 movie theatre. I am a fan of foreign and independent films that are not shown in the town where I live. Netflix has a great variety of these films and we are able to watch about 5 or 6 movies a month.

we have had netflix for over a year now. we have the 2 at a time unlimited monthly plan that comes to $15 and change(our state has tax some states are different). its been great. we view movies we want to see, i get fitness dvds(and believe me i formed a whole new opinion of them after i did them LOL). its saves a bundle b/c we could spend about the same amount in a week at the video store and we are only allowed to keep new titles for MAYBE two nights(most of the time its one). i can keep track online, mix the order of movies being sent, and easy enough to drop in the mailbox on the way to work(as opposed to going 5 miles out of my way to drop a movie off in the night box at the video store). its been perfect for us. i would start with the cheaper plan and see how that works for you, you can always change your plans anytime if you find you want to get more movies at a time or get unlimited movies in a month.

2-at-a-time. 1 for the kids, 1 for us/parents. We usually watch them (all 2) on weekends. So in a month, we probably watch 8 movies... 4 PG/G rated and 4 big people rating.

My husband and I love Netflix. We just got two movies in the mail today. He used to go to Blockbuster, but the late fees because we forgot about them were incredible. Now if you don't return one you don't get another and it works as an incentive. They come with a prepaid return mailing envelope that you can throw in any mailbox.

I wonder if you all know that Blockbuster has the same online rental as Netflix? Except with Blockbuster (to compete with Netflix) you can take the DVD you've already watched and use it as a coupon to get another movie at the physical store.

We don't do this often, but if we get a movie in the mail on Friday, watch it and want to see something else on Saturday, rather than waiting for the mail we can take to Blockbuster and get a movie right away.

I know some people have had better turnaround time with Netflix and others have better with Blockbuster - depending on where the shipping location is or something.

I tried the Blockbuster online rental for a while, but I went back to Netflix. I didn't think BB had nearly the selection on exercise vids. :) Also, even going into the local store irritated me because they NEVER have new rentals available, so the coupons were mostly useless to me. Also, while they say they have "no rental fees," what they do instead is charge you to BUY the movie if you're a week late! Er, no thanks.

Nancy, I do three-at-a-time. One for the kiddies, one for me, and one for my exercise obsession. :) I think it's around $17 a month or something. Waaaay cheaper than what I'd spend in a rental place!
