Question about Formula?

Just wondering, for those who fed their babies formula, did you use the powder or the pre-made can and why?

Thanks in advance :) Hoping to breastfeed, but if for some reason it ends up not working...wondering what kind of formula to buy!

Thanks again!

I used the bottled formula because it was just easier. The brand that my hospital used was similac with iron dha ara. I do have the powder formaula for when I am out, I just bring water and mix it when my ds is ready to eat

I have used ready to use and powder formula. I use Enfamil with Lipil. I did have some tummy issues with the Enfamil at first, so we had to switch DD to the soy formula at about 3 months old.

I liked the ready to use better when she was younger, it was easier, just use the cans and make all the bottles for the day. Now, since she is older and eats more food and less formula the powder works better, I can just make the bottles as we go along.

I have heard good things about Enfamil, Similac and Good Starts.

I usually didn't start formula until 8 or 9 months, but when I did I first used up all the stuff the hospital/dr. gave me, then used the generic Target Carnation Good Start kind. Good Start seemed to taste the best (to me anyway) and be most similar to breast milk. Definitely buy powder; it's cheapest by far.

I used the powder for financial reasons. It's expensive stuff but the powder is the best bargain! I actually ended up finding a great deal at Costco...I bought thier brand and spent about $20.00 on about 2 pounds of powder where a name brand would cost about $25.00 for 1 pound!!! Thank goodness too cause DS was drinking an 8 ounce bottle in no time!!!:)

Hi there! My FIL is an ob/gyn and his best friend is a neo natal specialist, I did NOT breastfeed, so he made sure to tell me to use Enfamil Lipil with Iron. Worked really well for my 1st, she never had spit ups, gas issues, and was NEVER sick her first year. Similac was second if there were issues with Enfamil. I used the powder, just lasts longer and they make 4 ounce powder on the go. So easy. The premade is great and easy too but once you open it it only lasts a certain amount of time. Either is good to use, whatever works best for you. I am due any day with #2 and I already have Enfamil Lipil with Iron ready for her;-)

Hi,

I used formula with my first DD and got coupons in the mail a lot and used those! But mainly we bought the cheapest we could find which was Walmart brand. My DD did not have any problems with it. I also bought those handy single serving packs to put in my diaper bag (not sure if they sell those anymore). Those are spendy but so easy to use when you are away from home, especially when baby wants and bottle NOW!!!

Good luck!
Mary

We use Enfamil Lipil powder. I used the ready made stuff for the first week or so (was supplementing breastfeeding), but now only use the powder.

I make up 5 or 6 bottles at a time, so they are ready made in the fridge.

For on the go, I bring bottled water, liners (we use the Playtex liner system), and extra nipples. Glad has disposable containers with twist tops, so I keep one with the powder in the diaper bag (with the scoop). Works great :)
