Question about fluidity

L Sass

Cathlete
Got my fluidity bar today and I'm so excited to try it - these workouts look to be different from anything I've ever done. (Unfortunately I'm super sick today so called it a passed out on the couch with a 103 degree fever day - ick!) But for those of you who have these - how do you incorporate them into your Cathe's? Hopefully I'll be among the living tomorrow and I really want to try them. TIA

Hi, Lorrie:

I hope you feel better soon!

I am doing P90X right now, but when I was doing Cathe + Fluidity, I would use it with my lower body routine. I would split my LB workout into standing/floor work and then add on the Fluidity. In other words, I'd do (say) GS Legs standing + Fluidity one day and then GS Legs Floor + Fluidity later in the week. This works especially well with Butts & Guts.

I'll be interested to hear other ideas, too!

Marie,

So basically you just add it to your lower body weight workout? Is the workout that comes with Fluidity a total body workout? And do you do the entire thing or just the lower body portion? I will be getting my Fluidity any day now and was wondering how to work it in. I have not in the past been big on any kind of pilates or yoga workout and have focused on lifting and cardio, so any information on how best to use it is much appreciated. Thanks for sharing that info with us.

Lorrie, Thanks for starting this thread. Would you keep us informed on how you work it in and how it works for you? Thanks.

Fluidity is ballet movements, basically no-weight exercises. I've had a lot of good results with this type of leg work. I don't think you would have to get the Fluidity kit - some ballet DVD's from Collage would do the same thing.

Lotte Berk, Bar Method and NYC Ballet come to mind.

The only better thing than fluidity is iballet.com. The same idea, but the workouts are longer and harder. I downloaded from www.itrain.com many "iballet" workouts and I just love them!
I bought the fluidity bar + dvds a while ago, and just sold them on ebay last weekend. Iballet is much better. Mari

Well, the difference with Fluidity and the other barres is that the Fluidity barre is SUPER sturdy and incredibly well-designed - an absolutely fab piece of equipment. And while yes, you can certainly do the barre-type exercises using a chair, I don't believe you cn get as good of a stretch. Also, the Fluidity workouts themselves (which come with the barre) really require a barre for stability.

I was using Fluidity, Lotte Berk, and the Bar Method workouts using my Fluidity barre. I did also get the NYC workouts but.... zzzzzzzz. Blah. Very boring.

Anyway, changes that I noticed were a definite tightening in the glute area (particularly under the cheeks). I am wanting to work on flexibility and I'll be doing that after P90X. I am thinking about adding Fluidity back in during phase 2 (as opposed to doing doubles cardio), but we'll see.

I'll be excited to hear about results!!

Hi, Miss:

Yes, that was how I was working in the Fluidity. I'm also not big on yoga or pilates so it was hard for me to set aside a day to devote to doing just this. I found that it was just very complementary to leg/glute work and since the muscles were already very warm, I could get a very good stretch.

I've done the entire workouts BUT I don't find the U/B work particularly challenging, so sometimes I would do parts of LB (I particularly like High Round Assets) with Fluidity Intermediate (which is thus far my fave). Again, because I already worked out, I would skip the W/Us and just do the sections that interested me.

Good luck!
Marie
