Question about Butts and Guts

Hi Cathe,

I have legs that respond very well, shall we say, to weight work. If I'm not careful, I get very bulky in the thigh area. I usually try to use 30-40 lbs for lower body work, but inevitably by pants get very tight in the thigh area, and I have to go lighter for a while which is irritating because I don't feel like I'm working hard. GGRR! Would B&G be an okay workout for someone like me, or would it provide too much of a good thing for my legs? I have the rest of the series, but have held out on this one. Thanks for any advice- I know you're so busy right now. I have already pre-ordered!

I wonder this too. Also, can you count step workouts as lower body? I know that stepping isn't toning specific lower body muscles, but generally if I do a step w/o I count that as lower body. I feel that doing more would 'bulk'me up. Thank you for the feedback.

maybe this article can be a good refernce. i would think using the moderate weight(suggested in the article) you can still get a good workout without going overly heavy in butts and guts. i previewed it(just got the dvd) and its not something i would really do heavy-heavy weight for b/c there are a good amount of reps and pulsing reps.

I do Butts and Gutts 1x per week (in addition to a full body work out on an alternate day) and have not found that my legs are getting bulky (and I have the same concerns as you). Cathe doesn't really use heavy weights in Butts and Gutts and the rep quantity per exercise is high, similar to Muscle Endurance (which actually helped me lose inches off my hips). My legs did bulk up somewhat when I used to do Legs and Glutes, so I tend to use that workout sparingly or with much lighter weights than Cathe and crew use (but I do try to work it in because it has such great energy!)

Hope that helps!

That makes sense...I assumed the weights would be lighter since the workout is so long. Well, I guess I can try it and see what happens. I'm barely 5'3", 120-125 lbs, and I feel like I look rather stocky and not as feminine as I would like, so that's why I really don't want the bulk in my thighs.
