Pyramid Up or Down?

Hello!

I'll take an answer from anyone here. In the Pyramid Upper and Lower Body DVD there is a premix option to go just up or down? What is the benefit of each of these?

Thanks for the help!

Yes Kate, there is. Here is the breakdown:

Pyramid Upper Body:

PreMix Combos: We've included 2 Premix Combos with this workout, including:
1) Pyramid Up only (3 sets each exercise)
2) Pyramid Down only (3 sets each exercise)

Pyramid Lower Body:

PreMix Combos:

They are timesavers, obviously. I also think they would be more strength building than endurance because I can go heavier since I know I don't have those last two sets coming.

As to what benefit going up has compared to going down, I don't know. When doing the down pyramid, I do the first two sets with my heaviest weights and the third set at my mid-weight. No particular reason, just for variety and because I can! :)

I would guess the benefit is you can lift heavier in a shorter amount of time. Or, if one is new to the workout, they can ease into the pyramid system. Just a guess...

I know these links do not completely answer your question, but maybe it will tide you over until Cathe can answer. BTW, perhaps changing the structure of the weight training (working the negative vs the positive and vice versa) helps the muscle not adapt to the same routines. I think the pyramid series are really effective for building strength. I did see a remarkable improvement in my upper body strength after using this series for a few weeks. Sorry I cannot be any more of help. HAPPY NEW YEAR:)

Hi there

I am obviously not Cathe but here goes... As far as going up or down, there is a LOT of research proving the benefit of both methods, I suppose it is a case of trial and error as to what works best for your body. I suppose that is not helpful at all... :) :)

Thanks so much for your help! I am continually amazed at the helpfulness of all you girls on these forums!

Many thanks!

I always like to start by going up, because starting with lower weight helps warm up the muscle. Sometimes on a second or third set I will go down if the weight is too heavy. But always my first set is a weight that I can do comfortably so there is no stress strain or risk of pulling anything.
