puzzlemats

Hi! Everyone. I've read that a lot of you use puzzlemats. My question is, how many do you use when doing step (full size club step)? The sets I've seen usually come in 4's, but that seems as if it would be to small.

Also, for those of you who have had them awhile, do they do any damage to carpet. We just finished our basement not long ago and put carpet down. This is where I workout - it is not a dedicated workout area, more a second den/playroom. I was thinking the puzzlemats besides being good for my knees and with the turns, would actually help protect the carpet.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanxs much!!!!!

I've got 9 2x2 squares, for a total of 36 square feet (6' per side). That sounds like a lot, but the step takes up the middle "row" and I'd like to have more. I just haven't gotten around to it yet! Anyway, my workout space is also my living room (yucky rental hardwood floors) so I can't expand much more than I already do! Sometimes I drag the kitchen anti-fatigue mat in and put it at the side, so if I get too into a move I'll be okay and not fall off the raised level of the mats.

I think some people who have carpet also use a rug protector/anti-slide rubber/plastic thing, too. I use one because the mats slide around, like when doing terminators. I'd get one of those if I were you! ;)

Hi twosquared! I have a 10' x 10' puzzlemat area. I used to exercise on carpet over concrete, but now I have the puzzlemats on concrete. It has made a world of difference in my joints...also I no longer worry about knee torques.

I have my puzzlemats over one of those rug grippers....don't know how that would work over carpet. I think they may slide around on the carpet, but maybe someone who has them on top of carpet can be of more help.

I have a 10 X 12 area which is 30 2 X 2 mats. I have mine over carpet and have had them for over 2 years. I bought these at Target and they are the high density mats. Part of the reason I got them was we had just put down new carpet and my DH was afraid I was going to ruin the carpet, so we got them to protect the carpet (I work out 6 days a week). Anyway, the carpet is in fantastic shape and so are the mats! They are very durable. I also don't have any small children or animals so my husband and I are the only ones that are ever on them. They are very easy to clean and take care of.

Prior to having the mats I worked out on our old carpet which was pretty cushioned, but the mats are even better as I can do pivot turns and those types of things much easier. I love them! :)

I use puzzlemats all the time. I have mine over carpet and they've actually protected the carpet underneath. I installed my mats wall to wall so they don't slip while I'm stepping.

I put down an area 4 mats deep (front-to-back) and five mats wide, for an 8' x 10' area. I also have them up against furniture, etc. so they won't move.

Thanks for all the pointers. Guess I never thought about them moving on the carpet. I can't go wall to wall, the space left to right would be to large, also, I have to set them up and take them apart before and after each workout. The more I have to do, the less likely I will want to workout. I just started again and don't want to loose momentum.

I am getting up at 5:00 am to be done by 6:30am when the kids need to get up for school.

Any more advice will be welcome. I respect all of you on this board. You have been a wealth of info for me, and are helping to keep me motivated.

Where did you find the wood tone puzzle mats? Your workout area is very efficient :) Your comments on you web page reguarding your work out area/ bedroom were enjoyable. Actually your whole web page is nicely descriptive! Thanks for sharing :)
