Pushup modifications

I remember reading awhile back that one way to start doing pushups on your toes is to put your hands on an elevated step. I was going to try this on my GS CT day this week. One question I do have is about the step. Does it move around when you have your hands on it for pushups? If it does move, is it okay to have it up against the couch or the wall or does this take away some of the benefits of the exercise.

TIA,

Karin

Hi, Karin. IMHO, the step could very well move if you're doing your push-ups and your hands on it, just because of the angle at which your weight would be resting on your hands and thus your step.

It would be fine to have the step braced against a couch, wall or other fixed surface; it would not take away from the benefits of the push-ups.

Hey, Karin! I was doing my push ups on an step/bench after wrist surgery. I did all 72 P/U from GS chest like that for a few weeks while I recovered. I did not have any problem with the step moving at all. I was using an 8" step ehight for the push ups and it was set in the middle of my floor, which is lined with the puzzle mats.

But, like A-Jock said, you can easily slide your step up against something if it's slipping.

Good luck!
