Pure Strength?

Hi Cathe and the educated crowd!

Quick question on PS series. Is doing each tape only once per week and no other weight workouts enough? I also do cardio 4-5 times per week. My goals are toning up, weight/fat loss.

Also, is it okay to do two of these tapes on the same day? For example, can you do ALL of the upper body on one day and then just the legs another day?

I am finding myself a bit crunched for time--seems hard to get in the weight workouts and all the cardio too sometimes! I have been doing two full body workouts per week (mostly PP and SS) for a while and thought changing to PS for a while shake things up. Thanks for you help!

Hi Thea,

Based on your stated goals, I would answer yes to your first question. I have done PS series with 3 cardio workouts and found good results. I Threw in a rest day to avoid overtraining and time for muscle recovery. But you know your limits best.

I have also used this series for a two day split but tend to use as is. Sometimes I tweak it a bit and add a short cardio segment.

I have read posts by others who use this series more than I do, so maybe they will chime in if Cathe dosn't get chance.

Have fun shaking things up :p

Hi Thea.

I always "double up" the workouts with Pure Strength, turning them into a two day split (rather than three days). However, I find that for myself, doing each body part only once a week isn't enough. I typcially add a full body workout (like Muscle Endurance or Push Pull) each week. That gives me three days for weight lifting and the remaining days (2 or 3, depending on how I'm feeling that week) for cardio.

I'm also not Cathe, but there is no problem doing 2 of the PS workouts in one day if you have the time and the energy. I believe Cathe says at the beginning of the workout that you should do it once or twice per week. I did it once per week for a long time and saw results. But now I feel I need to workout each body part twice per week to go even further. I don't have time to do PS twice per week, so I use other workouts like PH if I want to hit all muscle groups at least twice per week.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I am trying to figure out what to do. It seems that lately if I don't get my exercise in the morning, it isn't getting done. I like to get in about 4 cardios per week, so that leaves me with only 2 mornings (I workout Monday thru Saturday) for weights. Maybe I am better off sticking with two full body workouts for now. I'll have to think on this! Thanks again for all of your help!
