Protein supplements

Hey everyone! Good morning to you all!!!!! I don't know why I'm in a good mood. It's snowing, my socks are wet, and I didn't get much sleep last night. But whatever...I feel kinda cheerful. So HI!!!!!!
:)

Anyway...I was thinking about getting some protein supplements. I was looking at the Isopure powder, but I don't know...those powders just take up so much room in the cabinet and then it's just kind of a pain mixing 'em up. So I was thinking maybe I'd get protein bars instead. I could have one as my afternoon snack at work because they're so portable. Powder requires a shaking canister and milk, then I end up spilling some of the powder on my dress pants.

I'm looking at Pure Protein Triple Layer Bars. Has anyone tried them? Or does anyone have another suggestion? I don't want to spend a fortune (who does, right?) and I'd like to stay away from soy protein because of that whole thyroid thing I brought up last week.

Thanks ladies (and the scattered gentlemen)!

Hi,

I eat ProMax. I'm very careful about which protien bars I eat because of the sucralose. Almost all of them have sucralose in them which just pisses me off. ProMax is natural from what I can see. I got them from Trader Joe's. I know the Pure Protien shakes have sucralose in them which I was disappointed about. I don't know about the bars. Read the ingredients first before purchasing. That's what I do. Good luck finding the one you like. Took me 5 different brands!

Have fun in the snow. We got some here, too but it's a wet snow not dry. I hate shoveling the wet snow.

Donna,

Don't want to dampen your day any more but you said you were in a good mood so I'm sure you can take it.

The problem I usually have with protein bars is they give me gas. Doesn't matter what bar I've tried and I've tried many. Protein powders don't but bars do. Not sure why although I think there was a post several months ago about this and it's one of the ingredients they put in these bars. Maybe the Promax is better.

:) Well...I have my own office, so if I get gas - who'll know? Could it be fiber? Do they have a lot of fiber?

Trioplex has a lot of fiber. It was my fav. protien bar until the idiot changed the flavor. Now it tastes like PURE sucralose and leaves NASTY aftertaste. I was SO MAD! Promax has 2 grams of fiber. If sucralose doesn't bother you, I suggest Trioplex. It's mostly oats. And it's EXTREMELY filling. Promax is filling, too.

Donna,

I make my shake before I go to work in the morning, and keep it in the fridge at work, until I eat. The only problem is that it does not taste as good when you make it fresh. I make mine with 1 cup skim milk,1/2 bananna and 4 large frozen strawberries. I have been thinking of buying a cheap blender, to keep in my locker to make my shakes fresh.

I have been using Shaklee soy protein every day, then I read your post and I am now alternating soy and whey. My husband and I just bought Designer whey, and it taste pretty good....but I like the shaklee soy taste better.

I can never suck down any of those bars, they all taste gross to me! Yuck!

:) ;-) :D :p :9 :7 :+

Spin,
You know what shake is real good?? I just tried it for the first time today. Aria by Designer Whey. It's 50% whey and 50% soy. It's MUCH better than the regular DW. I bought vanilla flavor and it's so good. I put a frozen banana, skim milk, one spoon of peanut butter. If you have Trader Joe's near you in Indy, they sell it there cheap.

Also, where in Indy are you from? My husband is from Greenwood.

Lisa :)

Lisa,

Thanks for the suggestion! When we went to GNC, we could not find a half soy and half whey Designer Whey powder...of course the guys that were working there were complete idiots!! I will have to check around and see what I can find.

I am not from Indy..sorry! I have been there a few times though.

:) ;-) :D :p :9 :7 :+

I never ask at GNC because they're idiots. LOL

Trader Joe's has them right there on the shelf. I don't know if Vitamin Shoppe has them.

This vanilla flavored Aria tasted exactly like a milkshake. I was pleasantly surprised with the taste. Someone on this forum mentioned she liked it but I don't remember who it was.

YES...why did they go and screw with the recipe for the Trioplex bars? I LOVED these things and now I can't stand them. What were they thinking?

BUT, I've found a new bar: Avid Source bars. They are like a payday candybar (kind-of). They taste good, have few calories than Trioplex, and have a pretty good amount of protein -- oh...and, for heaven's sake, they're NOT chocolate!

Also -- someone else here mentioned gas problems. I have the same issues with protein drinks/powders and bars and I cannot figure out which ingredients are causing it. However, the Avid Source bars don't give me a problem. Neither does Lean Body (low-carb) protein powder or Lean Dessert protein powder from BSN.

Good luck!

I drink Myoplex Light protein shakes. Lately, I haven't used a bar b/c I cannot seem to find any ones that I like or that I can digest well :) I don't get gas but I get stomach pains, bathroom issues, etc. I think that happens b/c of the way that it is all concentrated and packed into a little bar, but not sure.

The Myoplex are nice b/c they are packets instead of a big barrel of powder. Less chance to spill it all over the place and easier for travel (as opposed to a ziploc)! Plus they have nice four packs of flavors.

Christine :)
