Protein shakes

looking good

Cathlete
Hi All,

I have never used protein shakes and was wondering how you guys are using them? A Meal, Snack? I think I would prefer them as a snack since when I eat I like to feel like I am eating and not drinking.

I weight between 120 -124 5'4 38 yrs old and I am ok with my weight. I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and I am looking for a change in my snacks and I hear (read)you guys talking about the protein shakes.

With all that begin said what kinds are good and what kinds are not I am really green on this so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Therese

Probolic SR is what I drink. I get it at GNC. Comes in cookies and cream, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Cost $40 a tub and well worth it. I sometimes will drink GNC PM Protein shake in the evening which has 40g of protein. Probolic has 20g. and keeps you in a anabolic state up to 12 hours.

I have a shake every now and then for a snack. It's nice to get a little chocolate fix every now and then. It's also good mixed into oatmeal. I also make them for my husband for breakfast occasionally. For the most part, I'd rather chew my food so I don't have shakes very often.

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good

I drink shakes after a weight workout. I like Designer Whey Vanilla. I usually mix it with soy milk and frozen fruit, or soy milk and pb and banana. That one is my fave.

Charlotte:
I work out 3-4 mornings cardio and 2-3 evenings with weights, usually pyramid upper body or muscle max. Once I get a high step I will be adding in Pyramid lower body from time to time.
I am interested in adding in some protein shakes before or after workout. You seem to know alot about them, can you tell me when would be the best time for me to use them? I want to try the ones from GNC.
Thanks,
Paula

I drink a protein smoothie as a recovery drink after any intense workout whether it be with weights or running.

Right now I have Wellements Pro-Rated vanilla from Costco.

I mix it in a blender with frozen fruit, glucosamine, and water. After a long run I throw in a packet of Emergen-C as well.

I'm not much of a breakfast eater, so I have a morning smoothie that includes some protein powder.

I'm the same way because I usually work out first thing in the morning. I know I need to eat something, but a big breakfast wouldn't jive with my running and Cathe workouts! I'm a big fan of the soy protein shakes. I use Naturade soy protein mix. I actually find that it satisfies my sweet tooth! I fill the blender up halfway with ice, some water, protein powder and blend it all up. It tastes just like a shake or a wendy's frosty. Plus it is great for you, digests easily and hits you up with a lot of water first thing in the morning.
