Project Runway finale!!!! (***spoilers***)

Ok, what did you all think of Jeffrey winning? I was surprised only because I thought he was such a dark horse, but I did agree with the judges that his stuff showed the most innovation and range (well, all except the blue pieces - what was up with those? even my SO was like, how do they relate?? lol). I was REALLY disappointed with Michael's overly s*xed collection and thought some of Laura's pieces were, frankly, kinda scary. The black feathers reminded me of vultures. Maybe that was some kind of pregnancy hormone reaction, lol.

I will say that I LOVED Uli's collection and thought her designs were just gorgeous. The first few pieces were a nice breath of fresh air for her, but the last few looked like they came out of the show...

What did you all think?

Marie

Well, I guess I could never be a designer because I just can't figure out what on earth they were thinking when the judges picked Jeffrey. IMHO he should've been auffed a long time ago. I don't see what's so innovative about his stuff. Frankly, I don't think his line would appeal to anyone over 22 outside of the LA street scene.

Uli's collection was beautiful but you'd have to be 6' tall and anorexic to wear it.

On the other hand, Laura's pieces are the epitome of couture. I thought her collection was truly elegant and I love her attention to detail. I wasn't wild about the feathers but in general I loved her collection.

I completely agree with you about Michael's collection. He has talent but he needs to refocus and refine his designs.

Oh, darn! I forgot to watchx( !! I really enjoyed your recap though. I can almost see the clothes...and, of course, the drama}( !
Thanks,

I really loved Laura's collection. I understand why they didn't pick her to win but I would have bought her full collection. Very classic. I wasn't really wild about Uli's collection but she had some nice pieces. I figured that Jeffrey would win because he did show range and innovation. I was disappointed with Michael's collection but he's young and probably will have great success as a designer.

I pretty much agree with everyone else. Michael was a total disappoinment but, frankly, I wasn't very surprised given how he had performed on the last few challenges. Once all of the collections had been presented I "knew" Jeffrey was going to be the winner. He really presented a complete look.

Personally, I loved Laura and Uli's collections. I think they are truly clothes that real women would wear. To me, that would be the ulitmate test. Jeffrey, while I think he is very talented, I just don't see any real women walking down the street wearing his clothes. Sometimes I think they just reward innovation for it's own sake. I don't see the point of innovation if it's not realistic/practical. Just my two cents...

Jennifer:)

I actually thought that Jeffrey should have won. His collection was the most interesting (though I personally would never wear his stuff) and well though out. I thought that I didn't want him to win but last night he to me was the clear winner.

I love Uli's collection and would totally wear all of her stuff. She is going to be very succesful.

Laura, blah. She is too boring. I was rooting for Michael, but what the heck happened to him. His collection was awful.

Karin

Well, I think it's important to keep in mind that runway collections in general are not designed to be "ready to wear." They're generally extreme in some way or other, according to the designer's "point of view," then the version that actually comes out in stores is usually (though not always) some tamed-down, actually-wearable garment.

Anyway, I think they all have bright futures in fashion!

Marie

Marie, I agree with your assessment, except that I didn't mind the black feathers.

I didn't like Jeffrey's personality, but when I saw that yellow dress he did for the couture show, I knew his talent was substantial, and I'm not surprised that he won. Of course, Uli's designs are more marketable. If the judges had been department store buyers, Uli would have won. But that would not have been appropriate. The judges chosen were spot on. That's what I love about that show. It's such a class act.

Michael was my favorite up until last night. His collection was surprisingly dull and a big disappointment. I didn't particularly care for any of the designers collections, so I started a count of how many pieces in each collection I would wear. My tally almost mirrored the judges results:

Jeffrey- 1 -possibly 2(the green and white striped dress and the little gray/silver dress)

Laura- 1-possibly 2 (the two silver/gray dresses with the yellowy green accents)

Uli- 3 (this really surprised me since I was not a fan of hers before last night. That dress that snapped off to reveal a bathing suit underneath was to die for!)

Michael- a big fat 0. There was absolutely nothing in this collection that I would wear.

So I would have voted for Uli but I guess the judges were trying to make up for Chloe last year since she was a bit on the traditional side. In my opinion, edgy is overrated and Jeffrey should have been gone especially with that attitude.

I totally agree, Tracey. I was thinking back to how many times over the past episodes Heidi would say she would wear something and I never once remember her saying she would wear something that Jeffrey made.

bhappy - you can look at photos from the runway show here. (I hope this link works.) DH and I found these pictures early last week.

If this link does not work then go to www.nymag.com. Click on Fashion and then under "Designer Label" click on Project Runway. There are also pictures from last year's Project Runway.

Personally, Jeffery may be "innovative" but to me his clothes are not for the average woman, over the age of maybe 25, who lives anywhere outside of LA. I could not be a judge because most of the stuff they classify as innovative I find to be sloppy and not flattering to a woman's figure at all unless you are Twiggy. I would love to see an average sized woman (isn't it a size 10 or 12) wear their clothes and see what kind of response they get.

I loved Laura's collection, however she did not show a range. Uli's collection was great. I think she should have won.

I was quite disappointed that Jeffrey won, although I kind of expected it. He was more along the lines of Jay McCarroll from the first season.

I think Uli should have won, she was by far the best. Laura and Michael were quite disappointing, I expected more from them.

I just hated Jeffrey's designs, all edgy and no elegance! Still love Project Runway though, great show!

Kristi,

Thanks so much for the link!! You are a dear!
I agree with you about Jeffery...lots of talent, but very LA!

Oh I thought Jeffrey deserved to win. I was definitely not a supporter of his earlier in the season but only for his attitude, not for his designs. There are very few clothes right off the runway that I would wear anyway but Jeffrey's clothes were different without being crazy in his collection for fashion week anyway (now I HATED his couture gown--that yellow Daisy Duke goes to the prom outfit---yucch). I could see how some of them could have been adapted and made more wearable.

I liked Laura's collection as well, yes I liked the feathers, but she wasn't really out of the Little Rich Manhattanite zone. Uli's collection was good, a close second to Jeffrey IMHO. I hated Michael's...I was just so disappointed since he seemed like such a nice guy and I so wanted him to do well.

I think all of them will have some great opportunities from the exposure they got on the show.

On to Top Chef!!!

Leslie

Leslie,
I'm also on to Top Chef! If it's possible, I love Top Chef EVEN MORE!
I love that Harold Dieterle, the winner from last season, is a judge. I would happily go to any restaurant he opens.

I'm with you both, I really enjoyed the last season of Top Chef and am looking forward to this one. Half the time I don't even know what they're creating, lol. But it's amazing how talented they are, isn't it??

Marie

Okay, I'm a Project Runway addict and MUST chime in here!!! First off, the finale kind of confuses me - the runway shows are meant to give designers a 'forum' for presenting thier talent; the designs can be as outrageous as the designer wants - it's their personal expression (someone else mentioned this, too). That being said, one of the criteria that the judges mentioned was 'wearability for the average woman'. Talk about conflict!

Anyway - I loved Laura's clothes; while there isn't a huge range, she's smart enough to know what she's good at. I mean, has anybody seen any Vera Wang sportswear? Laura's tailoring and sense of classical elegance are outstanding.

Uli had a great collection, too. Very fresh and very Uli. I loved everything!!

Michael - what a talented guy! I think he tried too hard, though. Sometimes there is a struggle to find something 'new' and I think Michael was dealing with that. He'll figure himself out, though, I'm sure.

And Jeffrey - I agree he should have been auf'd a long time ago. What WAS that mess he put on Angela's mother? And that "cocktail" outfit?? He admits in his interview that he was trying to create a 'character'. PR keeps these people on to keep the viewers coming back (Wendy Pepper, Santino, etc.) - read the fine print at the end of the show and you'll see what I mean! I really don't think Jeffrey deserved to win, especially with those dowdy blue dresses he sent out there.

Now on to Top Chef!!!!! Looks like a good season...
