Procrastinating...DVD player choice

Cathe, SNM or Educated Crowd:
I hope that I have posted this in the right area.

I have preordered all of the new DVDs. Well, I know that I have had months to get the DVD Player but I have procrastinated and now it is finally time. This will be the first set of DVDs that I have ordered from Cathe (I have all of her VCR tapes) and I am stuck about what I should get.

I am thinking about the DVD/VCR combo. Is there an advantage to buying just a DVD player rather than the combo?

I am really electronically challenged when it comes to home entertainment equipment! Please help! Price is not necessarily the top issue. I would rather pay more than buy something cheap over and over.;-)

Thanks for your help!

I finally took the plunge and bought a DVD/VCR combo two months ago. I have so many VHS tapes and being technically challenged, I figured it would be easier to set up. I really like it, but I suppose it's going to stink if one of the components breaks down and I have to either send it out for repair and replace it.

I am very pleased with my VHS/DVD combo. I bought one from QVC. The brand is govideo. It is the logical choice. I have tons of both tapes and dvds. I have not had any trouble with finicky dvd's that only work on certain players or so I have read. I have a wide variety of discs and they all work. I am not a techie either. I don't program it but love the ability to flip thru the chapters and instant rewind!

I would like to buy the unit at a local store...not the internet. Any other suggestions? Thanks!;-)

Hi Melissa! Sam's Club and B.J.'s Wholesale have them for good prices. Good Luck! You are going to LOVE the DVD option!

I bought a Panasonic VHS/DVD combo this January. Now I can't remember if it was Costco or Sam's club. I'll have to check up on that cause I buy from both stores and right now I can't remember. But I have an extended warranty due to my type of membership for 5 years so that's great I think.

Hi,

This is my first time posting in this forum. I spent quite a while reading posts before registering. I have 11 of Cathe's DVDs and 10 of her VHS tapes, mainly duplicates of what's on my DVDs that I"ve been using 5-6 days a week since March. Before that I used Firm workouts 5-6 days a week for 10 months (for a weight loss of 55 lbs since last May).

I have a DVD only player and a DVD/VCR combo player. If you can only go with one, I'd suggest you make sure it's a programmable DVD player so that you can select which chapters you want to do from a given dvd. That way you'll get to experience the full benefit of Cathe's DVDs.

My DVD only player allows me to program and I use that for making custom workouts. My combo player doesn't have a programmable dvd function and I use that one for premixes.

I often use the two players the way I'd use a multi disc DVD player with programming capability: I use the programmable one to make a custom workout. Then I'll switch to the DVD player from the combo player and do the cued up premix before switching to a cued up VHS tape.

There's a thread in one of the folders about the benefits of a 5 disc dvd player you might want to read as well. If I'd bought Cathe workouts before getting a player, I'd have bought a multi disc player if I could have afforded it.
