Probiotics confuse me

hopefull

There were some articles in the news several months ago, about a connection between the bacteria in your gut and weight gain. The hypothesis was that over abundance of bacteria in your gut makes it too efficient in uptaking calories. I have digestions issues, mostly due to an under active thyroid that causes my intestinal track to be too slow. I was thinking of starting a probiotic in hopes of getting some relief with "issues", but do not need any help absorbing calories! I'm sure my body is taking in every last one of those. I don't understand how probiotics help with immune issues? Would love a link to some good research based, not "I want to promote my product" based articles on this health issue. Thanks

The gut

Is a mysterious thing. Not all bacteria is created equal. Some people do respond by putting on weight. It depends on you and the culture (little bugs) that you are adding to your self. My mother puts on weight with yogurt. Any flavor, fat or no fat, it doesn't matter, she puts on real fat over night if she has had yogurt. I tend to not lose weight when I eat yogurt. If I take my probiotic pills (refridgerated) I seem to be ok. I take them to help with my intestinal tract. Also, an overabundance of sugars, grain, and fruit can have a bad effect on the gut. Its more of a trial and error with each individual. As it turns out, every person has their own set of friendly bugs inside them that is different from everyone else's. We really are individuals.

I take "Ultimate Flora" 50 billion cultures per capsule. I buy it at the health food store its not cheap. I'm using it now because I just had a course of antibiotics which killed everything. I keep the pills in the fridge and take it before I go to bed on an empty stomach.
