Private Message vs. Email user...

This may be a stupid question but .... what is the difference between these to options?

pm will be only on this site. You have to go to your preferences to view them. e-mail goes to the persons e-mail.

Thanks for the answer. Do you use PM's went the person's email is not enabled?
