Pregnancy Videos

I was just curious which videos you use (or used) most during your pregnancy - Cathe or otherwise. When/how did you modify them, and did you purchase any "specialty" pregnancy videos - if so, which were your favorites? Thanks!

Hi Nancy!

This may or may not help, but I just wanted to say that when I was pregnant, I tried Kathy Smith's Pregnancy Workout, as well as Jane Fonda's and Denise Austin's. Seems like I rented them from the county library. If you are new to working out, you will probably like them and also you will probably get a decent workout. However, if you have been working out for awhile and are already in good shape, they may not be challenging at all for you. I had been working out before my pregnancy, so I did not break a sweat during these videos. But I did learn some breathing tips and stretching from Kathy's and Jane's that I liked. Plus, just working out with some other pregnant people made me feel good (even if they were on tv). I am looking thru the collage video brochure, and it looks like Buns of Steel Pregnancy Workout, item #2382T, was done in 1994. At least that one is newer. The video's above that I tried were quite a few years old and the clothes were kinda funny. I guess that shouldn't matter, but for whatever reason, I kinda wanted something newer. Although the clothes are out of date, I believe all of them are approved by the American College of Gynecologists, so the info is probably still very good.

Good luck to you.

Depends

I am typically an advanced exerciser, so the commercially available fitness pregnancy tapes didn't do much for me.

I did get a nice workout at a comfortable level by using some "intermediate" level tapes. My favorite was Kari Anderson's Fitness Formula. (I didn't know about Cathe then, but could probably have modified some of her slower-paced tapes, lowered the step and sometimes only done portions of the workout and done OK.) I wasn't into strength training when I was pregnant, so I can't comment there.

You may want to check over at www.videofitness.com, Nancy. There's a really nice section for pregnant women, with lots of suggestions for videos that are suitable for pregnant women.

Thanks

I was just trying to figure out whether (or how much!) to invest in pregnancy videos, as opposed to modifying my existing ones. Thanks for the suggestions!
