We will be leaving for Atlanta this afternoon for my youngest DS's surgery Wednesday morning.
He will be undergoing orthopaedic surgery due to cerebral palsy which will involve Left and Right Achilles Tendon lengthening and posterior tibia transfer and Left medial hamstring lengthening. Bottom line, both lower legs, upper left leg, resulting in both lower legs in casts for about 6 wks and a left knee brace and a wheelchair (which he just isn't thrilled about!) Wil is expected to be in surgery for about 1-1/2 hr and will be allowed to come home Thursday afternoon if all goes as planned.
We are blessed to be the parents of Wil and are thrilled surgeries such as this enable him to continue to walk and run, albeit a bit awkwardly. This is a child who was to have no measurable intelligence, to never speak, to never sit up, to never walk...he's an intelligent, talkative, walking 8 yo boy. Everything is multiple times harder for him, but he gets it all done.
Everyone needs to meet Wil, he is truly an angel on Earth. He never complains, whines or even considers himself "handicapped". He goes out of his way to do for others when some days his little body barely works for his own needs. Wil has had a variety of surgeries in his young life, this being his 7th, and sometimes the scars on his body make me cry. But not Wil, he makes me understand those scars are only on the outside...his spirit, happy outlook, and love for life are alive and well...and Wil tells me "Mom, don't worry, God is with me, always."
So please, take just a moment and send up a prayer for Wil.
Thank you
