It has been in and out of the hospital for a year.
Dad is finally having open heart on Thursday.
He needs an aortic and mitro valve.
I am scared to loose him. He is 79, over weight and has sugar, and bad lungs from asbestos poisining years ago.
Dr.Parks gives him a 95% chance and he has checked his corated and done tests. It just scares me to death.
This surgeon operated on my mom about 5 years ago and he is good, buy complications can arise.

Anne,

My prayers go up for your Dad and {{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}} for you.

Take care and update us as you can.

Anne...sending prayers for your Dad. And my thoughts, prayers and hugs for all of your family...

Anne, the way we gain confidence in our dr. is by talking with him/her, getting a sense of their own confidence and knowledge and, if possible, knowing about their history in previous surgeries. It sounds like you have all 3. Knowing that he successfully operated on your mother should give you a sense of security that others in your position may not be blessed to have. Surgery, of course, is a very scary event so we hold on to our faith - faith in our dr., faith in the strength of ourselves, faith in the prayers from our family and friends, and faith in our belief system. The dr. has a lot of faith in this outcome even with the health factors that you are concerned about. It sounds like the outcome will be just as the dr. has predicted. Try and do some deep breathing for yourself and just visualize the perfect outcome and try to stay focused on that and how wonderful your father will feel afterwards. He will pick up on those good feelings from you and they will help him feel more relaxed. Everything will be fine. Please keep us posted.

Hugs and prayers,
Bam

I will keep you in my prayers. I hope all goes well for your dad and big hug to you and your family. Stay strong and think positive thoughts.

Acatalina,

It is so ironic when I saw this post. My dad is also having surgery today. He is having his second hip replacement. He is also overweight with underlying heart conditions and I am so scared for him. I will be praying all throughout the day for my dad, and now for yours. My dad is 75 and I love him sooo much. I wish you peace to cope with the uncertainty of the day and a successful surgery for your dad!

Anne AND Janet!

I will def keep you both in my prayers! Janet, my FIL just had hip replacement a month ago & is doing great. He is 84! It's been a long haul between a week in hospital and then 3 weeks at rehab but now he is home and getting around with his walker. Keep us posted!

Anne, I will be praying for your Dad. I know when a parent reaches this age and has to have surgury it is hard. My Dad's wife around the same age just underwent major heart surgury. She came through well. This was last month. They had to do so much. She is still expriencing pain from the surgury. Both have had blood pressure problems.
