Powerstrike vs. CardioKicks?

Aquajock

Cathlete
Good morning! Just wanted to find out, from those who have both PowerStrike and Cardio Kicks, how they compare to each other cardio-intensity wise and leg / upper body drill-wise?

Inquiring Aquajocks want to know . . .

Thanks!

Annette

Hi Annette :)

In my opinion, they are just different enough "drill wise" to make both a treasured workout! Intensity wise, they're pretty equal in my book!
Powerstrikes begin with arm drills, then add on leg drills, then put the combination together. Powerstrike's are also very fast paced, so having prior kickboxing knowledge is pretty much a necessity, and there is little to no "down time" at all, constant moving throughout.
CardioKicks is at just a slightly slower pace, and safer pace for anyone without kickboxing experience. Cathe's kicks and punches are just "slightly" slower, so you can concentrate on form better with CardioKicks.
But if you've already got the form nailed, Powerstrikes are awesome and intense workouts!

Well...

Don't get me wrong because I enjoy Cardio Kicks. I have to fess up that I enjoy Powerstrike more and find it much tougher than CK. While I like Cathe's drill section, I don't really dig the aerobic part too much. That's why I like the CXT Kickbox best of Cathe's k'box routines---more drills than choreography. That said, I do enjoy the kickbox step section of Circuit Max! I am hoping that Cathe does a drill tape for her next Kickbox and skips the choreography stuff all together. Just my opinion! I'm sure there are those who like the choreography and loathe the drills. Suzanne

RE: Thanks!

Hi Annette,

I just wanted to add that at your level of fitness, I am so positive you would enjoy the intensity of powerstrike! They even have push ups in the warm up! (I was so not ready for that!) It is a tough workout, but the kind of tough that lets you know you're really working your body. And you can only admire the beautiful cuts and definition in both the instructors. When the going gets tough for me during the arm drills, I just remind myself, "I want THOSE arms!" And it keeps me jabbing! :)

RE: Thanks again, Donna!

I may have to put Powerstrike on the long-term wish list. Cathe is the only kickbox instruction I have, and I think I'm learning a lot about proper form / execution just getting good at Cardio Kicks and CTX Kickbox, as well as the shorter segments from her other year 2K vids.

Thanks!

Annette

Where does one buy the Powerstrike videos? I looked for them at Collage Video and tried a variety of formulations looking for a site, with no luck.

Thanks!

RE: Thanks again, Donna!

I was thinking about ordering PowerStrike, but am unsure as to what vid to get. I love intensity, combinations, and prefer a nice balance of kicking and punching. What's the difference between the Millenium 1 and 2 videos with regard to the moves, choreography, length, etc.?? Any advice would be hugely appreciated!!

Thanks!

RE: Hi Lynda!

Hi, Debbie!

Thanks--after reading this thread and vainly searching for challenging new tapes, I think I will try one of these. The new Christi Taylor step tape is just intermediate in intensity, much to my chagrin.

RE: Thanks again, Donna!

Hi Nicole,

The difference between the 2 videos is slight. They both have an equal amount of kicking and punching, but Millenium 1 focus' more on the front push kick and back kick, and Millenium 2 more on side kicks and roundhouses, although all kicks appear at some point on both videos. And both videos utilize front jabs, cross punches, upper cuts and hooks. And the speed in both is equal.

They're like Cathe videos or potato chips, you can't have just one! :) Sure "Step Fit" is a step video, but does it stop you from wanting "Step Works" or "MIC" etc.? Once you get one, you just HAVE to get the other! They are addictive! :)

RE: Thanks again, Donna!

Thanks Donna! :)

Gee ... here I was thinking I could get off cheap and just get one for now!! :\ Is PowerStrike and CK Sales the only place that sells those vids? I've been looking all over to find a slightly less expensive price tag .. but no luck thus far.

Thanks again!!
Nicole :)

RE: Thanks again, Donna!

I only know of powerstrike.com so I am of NO help there?
Possibly someone else may pick up on this thread with some other info, but I've never heard of them being sold through any other vendors.
Although you might try ebay or videofitness forum exchange. I have seen powerstrike's up for exchange before.
