Powerstrike -- More Info

Cathlete
Hi - I've been reading the posts about Powerstrike. Of course, I love all of Cathe's KB work, especially her CXT Kickbox (more than Cardio Kicks, but that one is a good workout, too). I've invested in a couple of Janis Saffel's tapes, which are pretty decent but not as challenging as Cathe's, and Sheri Jacklin (sp?) Kickbox Jam (CIA 2K03). Sheri's is tougher than Janis' BUT I can't seem to keep up w/her "pepper" speed punches. Those crescent kicks foil me every time. Even the marine guy in the tape is better than I at doing them! Anyway, how does Powerstike rate in terms of "do-ableness?" Is it more like Cathe's or Sheri's in terms of punch speed? How about the choreography? Any and all opinions appreciated. I want to be informed before I decide to purchase, and I really trust the opinions I get on this d'base. Thanks and happy bunny day! Suzanne

Hi Suzanne!

I resisted and resisted the PowerStrikes for a LONNNNNNgggg time. I figured, kickboxing is kickboxing and I really have enough tapes. (Did I say that? Wait! One can NEVER have enough tapes.).

But, in a tired and desparate moment, I caved and got 2 through the Firm Swap. They were the older ones and I must tell you. I loved them.... These gals are mean and tough. They are not very choreographed, they are equal on both sides and they are more drill like. Lots of form pointers, very effective and can work up the sweat. The two women (Patricia and Ilaria), really play off one another magnificently!!!!

I then got the Millenium Series and was not disappointed. The one tape seemed to be more kicks (Millenium 1)! I definitely work up a great sweat with these tapes. They are slow and controlled. They work upper body on the left side, then go into sequencing for the legs on the left side, then do the legs on the right side, then the upper body on the right side. Sooooo there's no quitting in the middle of the tape, cuz the upper right side of the body would not be done! ;)

We need NanC in here to answer your question. She's a PowerStrike expert! Definitely drill like, not dancy, and I really enjoy them.

NanC ~~ Where are you????

Love Powerstrike

Except for the part about me being an expert...Cleda's right on;-).

Suzanne, Cleda pretty much nailed it. They are drill inspired choreographed workouts and very challenging. Straight forward kickboxing. love, love, love the instructors and how they teach.

I'd stick to the two new Millenium workouts. The older ones are live classes with Ilaria and Patricia on the stage and everyone down in front of them. The two newest were filmed very much like a workout we are all used to. They have the background people behind them and they talk to the camera..and the production is a tad better than previous Powerstrikes.

Suzanne, you mentioned Sherri's first tape, did you try her second (Fit to Kick..I think that was the title)....I liked that workout much better than her first.

RE: Oops...as far as doable....

LAST EDITED ON Apr-01-02 AT 10:51PM (Est)[p]As far as Millenium video 1 vs 2 they are very similar. They both use the same drill technique and seem to be equal in intensity. I've only previewed them so far, but video 2 seems to include slightly more kicks. I havent done Janis' tapes so I cant compare but based on reviews hers seem dancier and more choreographed. As far as speed, while I was previewing them, some of the moves looked fast, but I practiced a few of them, and the speed seemed ok, what goofed me up is that it's probably going to take a time or two to get the arm "choreography" down pat. But as Nancy says, they're very doable.

RE: Oops...as far as doable....

Absolutely! :) I agree with everything said about Powerstrike! I am the first to be "iffy" about anyone other than Cathe, but the Powerstrike videos have been the 2nd best discovery I've made (Cathe videos being the 1st!) The workouts are awesome! :)

many thanks

Thanks to all who responded. After reading Cleda's reply, I went ahead and ordered both tapes!!! Donna, I am w/you---reluctant to try anyone's tapes but Cathe's. She definitely has spoiled me w/her high-quality, creative, and effective workouts.

RE: many thanks

I also just got Powerstrike 2 in a trade. Looking forward to it.

I also am doing Runervals for interval training. Those are pretty awesome workouts too.

RE: Runervals

Hey K60!! I was just reading this post, and was wondering what Runervals are? Is it a running interval workout outside, or is it a video? Just curious!!!

Thanks!

RE: Powerstrikes

I am waffling like crazy about getting these videos...if I had to pick one, either the new millenium 1 or 2, which would you Powerstrikers reccomend? Everyone is saying they ar so similar...

RE: Powerstrikes

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago, so what I did was order Millenium 2, since all the advice was, "if you can only get 1 of them, then get Millenium 2." But once I received M2 and did it the 1st time, it was just like a "Cathe addiction" and I ordered Millenium 1 the next morning (which should be arriving today or tomorrow :)) It is a superb workout, I'm only sorry I didn't order both at the same time and save on the shipping cost!
I rated NOTHING on the same scale as a Cathe workout until I did Powerstrike, now like Cathe workouts, I'm just saving my pennies until they make more!
I love a value! Nothing makes me angrier than to waste money on a video that doesn't produce results! The one thing I can say about Cathe and Powerstrike is that they are worth every dime you spend!

How is the music in the powerstrike videos? Of course, nobody's music is as good as Cathe's but does it compare to Cathe's music at all?
Thanks

Alas, as much as I adore Powerstrikes, the music in both videos is the same, a song titled, "New Age" I believe plays throughout. It's a catchy little song, and truthfully, I'm working out so dang hard I really can't hear much more than my own breathing during either Powerstrike video! :)
It's pretty much the same with both Imax and MIC, if I were offered $1,000,000. to name even 1 song from either video I'd be a broke a** because all I can hear is my own breathing during both of those workouts! :)
But to answer your question, no, the music doesn't compare to Cathe's! :) Maybe 1 day I'll get to the point in my fitness that I can actually hear and enjoy the music, but for now, it's merely ornamental to me! :)

Ha!

Just goes to show how much I care or notice music, although I do LOVE Cathe's music choices!!! I never noticed it was the SAME music in both PowerStrikes, although I noticed it was the same "type" of music. Like Donna said, you are sooo busy trying to follow along and BREATHE at the same time, that I don't really key in on the music. Lisa, I think you woud be really happy with the workouts. They compliment stepping, jogging, spinning & Hi/Lo very well. They are also very low impact but HIGH intensity. (Just a few jax thrown in a couple of times) Have fun if you decide to get them.
