Post partum mamas - how far are you from being back?

I'm now 9 months pp, and haven't posted much lately. I've been mostly been able to keep 3 workouts a week, and not much more regularly. I'm under prepregnancy weight, but my abs have an inch to lose and much muscle to gain. My pt wanted me to give up abdominal work for a while so I'm just now adding it to my workouts. I've decided to revamp my workouts and do 30 running and the rest of the time leg work or arm work + abdominals, and do that as many times a week I can for 8 weeks and see what's up. I am weaning in 3 months so I hope that helps too, as my abs seemed "pushed out" and need to be pulled in. So where are you in your goals?

RE: Post partum mamas - how far are you from being back...

Hi Julie!

I'm about 7 months pp - nice to hear from you! I've been MIA - haven't been able to work out much at all. We had a difficult move and are still not settled. Right now, after work and on weekends, I'm trying to clean the house to the point that we can move stuff in (it's all in boxes in the garages) I found my box of Cathe videos, but can't get a tv/vcr combo to work...<sigh> I weaned last month, so everything is starting to feel more like "my" body :) I can't find the scale, either, so I'm not sure where I am weight-wise. I'm pretty sure it's close to pre-preg, but the muscle tone is DEFINITELY not there, yet.

My original goal was to get back in shape as quickly as possible. I guess with everything else going on, 'quickly' is relative. :) For now, I want to get a regular workout schedule. With the kids and work, that's enough of a challenge these days. Once I have a schedule, I'll give it two weeks of circuit/cardio and then pick some body parts to focus on. Feels like starting from scratch, so anything is progress!

Hope you're having a good week - what were/are you seeing the pt for? Sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it!

KC

Hi Julie,
I'm five months pp. Since I had another c-section it was a good couple of months before I could really put my all into my workouts. I was able to loose all my pregnancy weight in the first week after delivery; however, my body shape is another story. My abs! I just cant believe how they are not responding to anything I do! It's like there is *nothing* there (as far as muscle). So, for my goals, I'm going to REALLY concentrate on working my whole core area. Planks seem to help build up my strength.

HI. I have also been MIA!

I am 4 months pp. I have only done my Cathe videos 5-6 times since Haylee was born. It's just does not feel like a priority right now. She still wakes up 2 times at night and my energy is not there for workouts. I have lost all but 5 pregnancy pounds. However, as others have said, the shape is not the same. I am returning to work in 1-1/2 weeks and my plan is to sneak off to the gym during lunch 2 days per week. I'll start there and see what else I can fit in at home. I do need to figure out a way to get back in shape, but as a first time mom I have found it more difficult than I expected to fit in workouts and also to find the energy/desire for them.

Good things come to those who wait...........

It is so great to "see" all you again!

I am 10 months pp and am down 8 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight, but I still have anywhere from 7-12 pounds more to go. I'll decide after losing 7 more pounds if I am happy or if I need to go any further. Even though I am down with the weight, I am like most of you in that my body is not bouncing back like it used to. That is okay, afterall I do have 2 kiddos to show for it, but I expect more out of my body. In any case I'm fortunate that my boss lets me come into work 1/2 hour early so I can take 1 1/2 hours for lunch to go workout (1/2 hour of that is travel time home and back to work and changing clothes). Otherwise I would barely have the time at night to workout. There are too many things to do when I get home at night since I work full time M-F. After the kids are in bed by 8 then I have housework to do and my meals to pack for work the next day.

Would any of you be interested in a Fit Mom Check-in? I feel I've outgrown the PP Check-in here.

Best Wishes,

Hi. Thanks for starting the thread Julie. KC- moving is just terrible (but a good terrible I guess because new houses are eventually fun). We moved into this house 10 days before my second daughter was born back in 2002. It was such a blur, and there is still stuff that has never been put away.

I am exercising about 5 times a week, but sometimes I feel like I am spinning my wheels. While I am fitting in time for a workout, I am also neglecting a lot of areas: I need to clean, shop, garden, work, cook, meet with friends, etc. My husband has been super, super busy at work so I have been keeping the house together.

As for my goals, I think I am way below my pre preg weight, but still higher than my first pregnancy. I realized the other night after doing the Basic Step Add On Stab. Ball ab work that I have a weak core. I was totally sore the next day.

I think a solution for me may be:
1. Planning shorter workouts to avoid the dread factor
2. Knowing that my older daughters will start school in the fall, 8-3 everyday. 5 days a week that will free up a lot of time
3. more walking/running
4. Weaning- which will help me drop just a little more weight (but will also slow down my metabolism)

I'm all for an 05 baby thread.

Hey Everyone!

Congrats to all the new Mamas!

My little chicky was born in Nov' 05 and I was almost there until knee surgery and that set me back a bit. I actually injured the knee pretty bad in March, so exercise was limited to only the bike and that was just not enough. I need the "hard core" cardio to loose that last few lbs. I need about another 8 lbs to get back below pre preggo weight (I was pretty light before the baby), but my arm muscle is pretty good right now since that is about all I can do.

I am in PT right now for the knee and have about 6 more weeks before I can run or do aerobics. My core is in need of some serious help, no c-section, just lost a lot of it while preggo.

My little one is quite the active little one, and getting ready to walk already, so she keeps me on my toes quite a bit.

That's about it for me!

I am 8 weeks postparum with my second. I have about 5 pounds to lose and my once flat belly now looks like a mommy tummy. I did find though once I weaned my first daughter at 9 months post partum, I quickly lost the remainder of the weight, plus some.

RE: Post partum mamas - how far are you from being back...

Well my lil' guy is already 14 months old...

It took me 9 months to get back to my pre-preg weight. I would have liked it to come off quicker but I figure if it took that long to put it on, then taking it off in that amount of time is just fine, right? :)

At this point though I am a few pounds below my pre-preg weight and in clothes that are a few sizes smaller! I look BETTER now than I did before I got pregnant!!! WOO HOO!:7

Gotta love that muscle!;)

ETA: Jana, your little girl is absolutely PRECIOUS! Soooo cute!:+

RE: Post partum mamas - how far are you from being back...

It is so nice to see all the familiar 'faces' :) :)

I'm up for a check-in, too! I found my step plus two risers (still looking for the rest :) ) and my videos. I have temporarily set up in one of the livingrooms (can you believe this house has 3?!?!). I did three workouts last week and am feeling it :p It has gotten me motivated, though. I want my body back!!!

So, what's it called, and where do I sign up?

Happy week to everyone -

KC

RE: Post partum mamas - how far are you from being back...

I put up a reward sign at every street corner to find my pre-mommy body again! haha!!! I am offering a very large reward!

Wendy-Thanks! she is a fire ball, let me tell you that! It's never a dull moment with her for sure!

RE: Post partum mamas - how far are you from being back...

Hey KC! I'm getting ready to start the Fit Mom Check-In over in the Check-in & Challenge Section. Come join me! Right now I am recovering from some kind of leg injury. I haven't been to the doctor for it so I'm not exactly sure what is the problem. Luckily I was able to get in my 10K race before this happened, but now this is a huge setback for me.

Everyone please feel free to join me over there.
