Post menopausal belly fat

I never thought it would happen to me. I don't know why not, I have struggled with my weight all my life! In the past 6 or 7 years, I have pretty much "won the battle" with running, Cathe work outs and healthy eating and at 48 or so was looking good. I read about the fat that accumulates on your belly after menopause, somewhere around age 50 and just thought..."well that isn't going to happen to me". Now it is and I'm depressed about it!! I hit menopause early and am 2 or 3 years post-menopausal and will be 50 this summer. I don't look 50, mostly because of working out with Cathe and the nice toned muscles and butt and all that I got from her workouts (thank you so much Cathe). BUT now this belly fat is creeping up on me at an alarming rate. It's not vanity so much anymore...like I'm ok if I have to get bigger pants. But I FEEL better without this spare tire around my waist.

Any of you out there with the scourge of belly fat have any suggestions other than bigger pants. I eat a healthy diet..rarely overeat, avoid processed foods and bad fats and bad carbs, don't eat junk food or many desserts, eat vegetables and lean meats and whole grains and such. I run or walk 15 to 20 miles a week, vary the runs between intensity and interval training etc, and do weights an average of twice a week (Cathe) rotating through most of her weight workouts.

Hi there,

Yes it could have something to do with menopause, perhaps you are a little estrogen dominent. Our hormones can sure reck havoc on our bodies if we aren't careful about what we put in them and on them!
I am putting a link here below to my website, and from there, check out Dr. Lee's webpage, maybe some of the information you read might pertain a little to why you have the little extra weight.
